100th year of baseball?

i have a waltham swiss made pocket watch and the inside design is of 2 men playing baseball with the words 100th years of baseball and its numbered out of 1500. I have looked online and have had really no help. Doesn anyone know when the 100 year anniversary of baseball was so i can try to date my watch. thanks in advance

I thought american baseball was invented in 1846. Actually I'm pretty close to positive. Didn't start catching on as a major sport until the 1860's, and in the 1880's really exploded and eventually became our national pastime


So depending on what research the watchmaker had, it could be as early as the mid-late 1940's

thanks guys hopefully i can bring it to a jewerler or watch specialist and know if it has any value at all

Abner Doubleday of Cooperstown, N.Y., in 1839

Although I don't think anyone actually knows the beginning of baseball. At least from what I have read. They announced that it was Abner's creation in the 20s or 30s. I read an article a minute ago that says a sporting goods magazine printed by Albert Spalding disproves that.

Doubleday was a general in the Civil War who had little or nothing to do with baseball or it's creation.

1939 would be the 100th anniversary of baseball, based on popular lore. 1969 was the 100th anniversary of professional baseball. The government created commemorative stamps for both occasions
