Wade Blasingame was a left handed pitcher who was originally signed by the Milwaukee Braves in 1961. As a 19 year old, he was called up to the Braves in 1963, appearing in two games. His best season would come two years later, as he went 16-10 with a 3.77 ERA in 36 starts. He would eventually be traded to the Houston Astros, before being traded to the Yankees on June 7th, 1972.
Although he had been used exclusively as a reliever by the Astros in 1972, the Yankees gave him a start on June 27th against the Detroit Tigers. He walked leadoff hitter Tony Taylor to start the bottom of the first inning. Then, Aurelio Rodriguez hit a home run. Al Kaline followed Rodriguez' home run with a blast of his own. Next up was cleanup hitter Willie Horton, who hit a home run as well. Blasingame was pulled from the game without recording a single out.
The Yankees didn't use him as a starter for the rest of the season. In fact, he would never start another major league game. The Yankees traded him to the Cardinals just before the start of the 1973 season, where he toiled in AAA for two more seasons.
