Michael Burgess to Double-A Harrisburg
By Ben Goessling, August 16, 2010 2:56 PM | 8 Comments

On the day their negotiations with No. 1 overall pick Bryce Harper will reach their conclusion, the Nationals promoted their current top right field prospect, Michael Burgess, from Single-A Potomac to Double-A Harrisburg.

Burgess, a sandwich pick in the 2007 draft, was hitting .262/.351/.470 at Potomac, with 12 homers and 70 RBI. His average and on-base percentage are both the highest marks he's had in a full professional season, and the 21-year-old has his best strikeout-to-walk ratio (1.89), as well.

He's only 5-foot-11, but Burgess is seen as a natural right fielder, with surprising power and a strong throwing arm that's drawn him a few comparisons to Dave Parker. It's probably just coincidence that he got bumped up the day the Nationals will find out if they get Harper (who also projects as a right fielder). But coincidentally or not, Burgess gets a step closer to the big leagues.

Burgess has been under the radar for quite some time now. I remember when base chromes were $30 a piece, now then can be had for $10 and under including shipping.

He has shown promise this year. Other than 1 terrible month, he has been pretty consistent. His k rate is way down and his walk rate is up.
