Rumor has it the Orioles are pursuing both SS (most likely Bartlett). I'm torn between the two on which one I want on the Orioles if it were to happen.

On one side, Barlett has the speed and could be a great #2 or 8 or 9 hitter. He'll steal bases and do an adequate job fielding SS. And he's durable.

On the other side, Hardy has more pop (we can always use a RHB with pop), is the better fielder, but can be injury prone.

Both will most likely be a 1-year rental.

Who would you rather have?

Rumor has it in either trade, David Hernandez is the centerpiece to the deal.

If the Rays are moving Bartlett for David Hernandez, that is sickening. If Jeremy Hellickson can't pitch for this team, how is David Hernandez going to contribute? Other teams know the Rays have middle infield depth and probably aren't in a hurry to offer up anything of much value, but come on, David Hernandez? Unless he is going to be a cog in the bullpen, what value would he add to their roster? The Rays would need to add one of the Orioles excess bats, someone who could DH adequately. Luke Scott for Jason Bartlett would make sense, especially if the Rays don't resign Carlos Pena. Or maybe someone like Felix Pie who could be the 4th outfielder behind Upton, Joyce, Jennings and play each of the outfield positions and pinch run.

I would think it would be Hernandez and a C+-ish prospect. And the Orioles used Hernandez in the bullpen second half last year and he did really well. Honestly, he could be your next Grant Balfour if he commands his stuff a bit more.

Plus you would have control of Hernandez for like 3 more years at minimum salary which Rays love...
