Why?[/quote:27jqm4b1]

He was an atrocious offensive player. There is no doubt that he was an exceptional defender, but with his offensive accumen he would not be a ML player today never mind a HOFer.

In his time his offense was not as bad as all that.

You can't compare him to these modern SS like Jeter Ripken and Tulo.

Ozzie was an above average hitting SS compared to his peers

Joe Morgan

He's one of the best second baseman of all-time. I understand that a lot of people didn't care for him as announcer, but as a player, he's one of the best ever at his position. He certainly belongs in the Hall of Fame.

If you boot Ozzie due to lack of Home Runs you need to get rid of Rabbit Maranville and Joe Tinker

Agreed. You have to compare him to his peers, not to players of a different era. For example, Ozzie won the silver slugger in '87 and he didn't even hit one homerun! When you look at the stats however, it was the right choice (and it wasn't even close).

I was never a big fan of his, but I feel he's a deserving HOF member.

Defense counts. Ozzie was the best for a decade.

I with you. (Attention Wes Yee). Omar Vizquel deserves a shot then as well.

Vizquel was NEVER one of the best players in the game. NEVER in his career was he even the best at his position. Not a Hall of Famer and it isn't even close.

His career OPS+ was 87, meaning he was worse than the league average.
