Quite a few sellers do this on purpose to draw interest to their cards and hopefully lure in people that don't know the market value of said high end cards into bidding over normal prices because they perceive themselves as getting a steal at whatever value they end up assigning to it. This tactic is especially useful when dealing with rare cards that have few completed listings to compare to.

It's the same reason you have people intentionally misspelling names to trick people who save searches for that kind of thing into hitting BINs on cards at slightly above market value.

Too bad he didn't start them at 99cents, there would be some massive steals there.
