Bruce Miles of the Chicago Daily Herald claims the Rays and Cubs are close to a deal which would send Matt Garza to Tampa Bay for Cubs prospects Chris Archer, Hak-Ju Lee, Brandon Guyer and Robinson Chirinos.

Your thoughts on this possible trade?

As a Rays' fan I would like it, personally. Not only does it make room for Helly in the rotation, it gives them an excellent SP or possible RP in Archer, plus a great athlete in Guyer and a possible backup for Brignac.

I think it is past rumor and has moved into the truth. Glad for Guyer who has a quicker path to the bigs now

I don't like it at all. Basically getting another Zambrano for one of there best athletes (Guyer) and there #1 prospect and possible future ace in Archer, and also there future SS. God I hope this doesn't happen

This trade wouldn't make them the # 1 system over the Royals, but it would certainly make them a close # 2.

The ONLY good thing about this is ill get to see all those guys in Port Charlotte when ST starts. This is a bad move by trader Jim

A question on Archer as I admittedly know nothing about him. How is he a #1 prospect given his walk rate? It's absurd and has been his entire career. What evidence is there that he can harness it? He seems to have good stuff but there have been a million guys with great stuff and no command/control that never make it.

Regardless of the final outcome of the potential trade, Cubs fans should be extremely happy that this is the direction the club is considering. For year, the Cubs have refused to move their top tier prospects to help the MLB club. Instead, it was the norm the get the prospects in Chicago, watch them flounder, struggle and lose all of their value...then trade them for a well-aged serviceable lefty specialist.

As a Cubs fan, I don't like it. Especially with all the good things I have heard about Archer.

Wow. A 5th, 6th and 7th guy as well? I'm admittedly no fan of Friedman, but if he pulls this off, the Rays have done very well here.

lots of prospects are headed the rays way. rays win on this one.

Sounds as though Hendry is taking lessons from his cross-town counterpart Kenny Williams.

I think you may have misread it. Looks like a 5-for-3 deal. Cubs get Garza, a pitching prospect and an OF prospect.

My bad. Still a good deal, though.

So, if the report is correct, the Cubs would get Garza, a minor league outfielder, and a minor league pitcher.

I like it. I'm sad to see Fuld go, as I kept hoping he get a shot at CF full time, but I still like the move.

As mike said, the Cubs prospects never do sh*t as Cubs anyway.

Prospectors love deals like this but not really sure how trading your second best pitchers for a bunch of prospects is a good deal for the rays. There are smarter ways to get a rookie into the rotation than trading one of your best players who is only 27 and isnt a free agent for 3 more seasons.

Re: Rumor: Garza to Cubs for Archer, Lee, Guyer and Chirinos

Cubs got owned. Archer is their top prospect, and has an upside higher than Garza. Garza had one good year which doesn't quite justify giving up a top prospect for him. He'll improve in the NL, but I don't know if he'll be good enough to justify the trade. One thing that's for sure is that the Rays rotation is gonna be SICK in a couple of years. Hellickson, Price, Moore, Archer, Davis. DANG.

Re: Rumor: Garza to Cubs for Archer, Lee, Guyer and Chirinos

Garza can be really good if he keeps his emotions in check. Kind of sounds like another Cubs pitcher doesn't it? It depends on who the other 2 players the Rays are giving us. This could be a good trade for the Cubbies but I still don't like it
