Q: Why Montero will NEVER be the next Pujols.....

A: Because everyone and their brother KNOW the name Montero, unlike Pujols when he hit the bigs.

That's because we are leaving in a totally different time. Generations are completely different. Because of the media no one is going to go un-noticed.

Did Pujols have anywhere near the hype that Montero has when he was coming up?

No, Tony LaRussa wanted to send him back down to the minors but he just kept hitting. So he stayed in the bigs... and the rest is history.

Nope. My first memory of Pujols was right before spring training in 2001. He was a guy to watch but probably needed to start the year in AAA.
Obviously he didn't.

Wow, a Montero hype post not started by jdcunaha. What is this world coming to? He must have sold all his stuff already which might explain why he hasn't been here firing up the hype machine

One realistic reason why Montero won't be the next Pujols, he's a catcher. Way too much wear and tear on the body playing that position. Now if he were to switch positions then he might live up to the hype.

From everything I've heard, it is implied that Montero will be more of a left fielder / first base / DH time by the time he hits his prime.

Yes.

It's called getting older. Committing to a top of the line workout regimen. Figuring out what works for you. Do you look like you did 9 years ago?

Also, I can't find this info anywhere, too lazy to look it up. Was Pujols the first guy to make it to MLB from that draft?
