Wanting to organize and catalog some of my cards including oddball cards and such. Was wondering which was better as far as descriptions and checklists go between Beckett's annual Baseball Catalog or the 2011 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards from Sports Collectors Digest?

and for reseach issues its best if you can pick up back issues cheap as they put in and take out some of the oddball stuff from year to year.

Any disadvantage to getting a 2010 with the disc other than having to have a computer to look at some of the cards?

Fully agree here. I am still on the 2007 edition. I don't care about the prices so much as I do the amount of cards/sets included in the book along with a brief synopsis of each vintage set which is my primary area of collecting focus.

SCD is the way to go. I have dog eared the **** out of my 07. I also have a 09 Beckett, which when used together makes for a pretty good hub of info. I probably will never buy another Beckett, but may invest in another SCD down the road. I almost wish that they would make 2 separate SCD's. One that ends with the 90's, and a 2000 and beyond.

I agree 100%. My favorite is from 2001. It has many oddball issues in it from the 80's and early 90's that were left out of subsequent editions.

SCD is awesome. I like that it comes with a disc and the whole catalog is one big .pdf, because it makes searching a breeze. For a player collector, it's great to put in your player's name and just see follow all the returns and see what sets he pops up in. Nice that I can keep the .pdf on my work computer and check it when I'm at work.
