What if Topps created a set that allows you to design your own autographed card?

Basically, in each box, you will get 2 randomly inserted topps certified sticker autographs on a blank card that will allow you to place that sticker autgraph on any of the "base or insert cards" of that player in the base/insert set.

So essentially, you pull a white card with a removable sticker auto at a rate of say, 2 per box. You can peel off the sticker autos from the non-adhesive white card it is on, choose one of your favorite base card designs of that player in the set or insert cards that are more limited if you are lucky enough to pull one, then adhere the sticker onto the card - viola- an autographed card on the card of your choosing or means!

So if Ryan Howard has like ten different base card/insert card designs in the set, and each card has a "blank" space on it to give you the opportunity to put the sticker auto there, if you pull the Ryan howard auto sticker in one of your packs, you need to pull one of his base/insert cards to "complete" the card.

It would be a fun chase - you would need to find the sticker auto card, AND the card you want the autograph to be stuck on. Some base/inserts obviously could be harder to find. So for example, perhaps there is a insert card serial numbered to 25 that doesn't have an autograph on it. If you pull that card, and happen to find the sticker autograph for Ryan Howard as well, you could be the first person to own the autographed card/25 for Ryan Howard in the product.

Player collector completists would therefore need to find all ten base/insert cards in the set, PLUS ten autographed stickers of Howard to have the whole run. Plus, perhaps you want un-autographed versions of the card, and perhaps an unused sticker auto white card to be a completist.

Fleer sort of did this a while back in 2004 I believe, where you could pull a four panel lot of an autograph of the same player, tear that card apart, and insert into the card.

This would take it a step above, and could be a fun product for those who don't mind sticker autos.

So the question wouldn't be "rip it or not". It would be "stick it or not".

Opinions?

You'd have to have some way to make sure the auto matches the sticker it's on. Otherwise, someone could just wipe the auto off of a sticker, forge a Pujols and voila! It'd save them the trouble of doing that with an already sticker'd auto and having to peel the sticker off without noticeable damage.
