Not too promising of a beginning. Gave up a solo shot in the bottom of the 1st.

I think we might be jinxing him with these threads. At least Sonny Gray is having a good game. :D

Yep...through 7 innings, he has 9 K's, 3 hits, 4 BB, and no runs.

After 20+ innings of ZERO run support for Cole over his past couple of starts, UCLA finally put up some runs in the 4th.

His line thus far -- 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K

2 more K's in the 4th for Cole and got himself out of trouble after a BB and a wild pitch.

4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K

With Jungmann's great start today and Cole's tough loss. Who is the most dominant pitcher in the NCAA this second.

(I still give it to Gray)

Wow. HR Oropressa.

Not surprising. He's got some pop behind his bat. Definitely not Cole's finest hour.

5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 5 K

I think it might have something to do with him not getting to start last weekend too. Maybe a little rusty.

Cole returns to form in the 6th, with 2 more K's.

6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 7 K

Well, that's it for him. After a 2B, BB and a fielder's choice which scores a run, Cole's night is done.

Some pop? Some pop?!?! He's one of the strongest I have ever seen in person. He isn't perfect, but when he hits it, it goes a long long way.

I was walking to the dugout this summer, and was no where near any area that a ball should land in walking along the foul line to the field. I heard the crack of the bat, and then a few feet past me a BP home run from Oropesa landed. It was insane.

I'll take Mark Pope so far this season. Is he the best prospect? No, but he gave up his first earned run tonight in 36.2 innings and is 6-0. Opponents had a .165 BA, a 0.23 ERA going in to tonight. 4 BB, and 32 K's. 22 hits.

He had his worst game of the year tonight going 7 ip, 8 hits, 2 ER (He had one on the season previously) 9 K's, and 1 BB. He got his sixth win of year though. It brought his ERA up to 0.59 on the year.

A: Most underrated pitcher in college
Q: Who is Greg Gonzalez of Fresno State?

I'll still take Pope doing slightly better numbers other than K's for Georgia Tech. I'm also a blatant homer, and not objective since I've seen Mark in person the last two summers.

Thankfully he has the stats for what I say.
