Was wondering who the top prospects are for the 2012 draft? Looks like as long as Brad Hawpe is on the Padres, we're going to be contending for that top draft pick.

Kevin Gausman, Brian Johnson, Barrett Barnes are pretty hot college names.

Thanks, just looked them all up; they all seem to have different skill sets. It would be nice to draft a player that would be close to MLB ready in the 2012 draft since I think the Padres will be stacked with a young talent in a couple of years.

Catch a Vanderbilt baseball game and you'll see a couple of them. Sonny Gray and Jason Esposito will both be first rounds picks. Esposito, likely, in the top 5-10.

On the college side, along with the names Beefy gave:
Kenny Diekroeger
Mark Appel
Jake Barrett
Deven Marrero

HS:
Lance McCullers
Nick Williams
Trey Williams
Lucas Giolito
Addison Russell

Still early in the process, so new names will emerge and some of these will fall. Overall, a pretty weak college crop, but what could be a very deep year for the high school ranks.
