You have to give the owner credit by going out and getting Kevin Towers as the new GM.bballjunky24 said:what he said ^...jeremy said:kirk gibson
This team is pretty much the same useless group from the last few years with no new big name players other than Dan Hudson and Ian Kennedy (if you can call those BIG names). Go back to 2007 and look at that team that won the division. Many of the good players from that team are still here. Gibson has been great for this team and the attitude and professionalism of this group of still pretty young players (upton, drew, CY, Dan Hudson, Gerrardo Parra)...
This team was hard to watch over the last two years and it wasn't because of lack of talent. It was simply that attitude of the players. Bonehead plays and no heart. Insert Gibson and that is really the major difference IMO. Plus I'll give credit to Kevin Towers for suring up the bullpen.
I rarely give executives and managers credit, but in this case I believe they deserve 90% of it...
GO DBACKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Towers made two great trades that have been instrumental in the turnaround.
1) Mark Reynolds for David Hernandez, Kam Mickolio. Hernandez has been fantastic as an 8th inning guy. Something the bullpen has really needed. This also made way for Ryan Roberts to take the 3rd base job from everyone
2) A lower prospect for Juan Miranda. Miranda has over taken the 1st base job and given the dbacks an economical power source at first instead of Adam Laroche
Towers also has signed some really good FA that have helped the club with veteran leadership. This was much needed and it shows. The leadership that Nady, Bloomquist, Mora, Blanco have shown has been phenomenal.
He also signed Geoff Blum but he hasnt played all year due to a knee injury. Zach Duke came back off the DL and pitched great.
Towers also brought in Branyan and Armando Galarraga but they lost jobs due to ineffectiveness.
Signing JJ Putz he has been outstanding and looks fantastic right now. He was scuffling a little bit early but looks like his old dominate self right now.
Rule 5 pick up Paterson has been a great lefty specialist and given the Dbacks a legitimate southpaw coming out of the pen. Something they have missed for years.
The Starting Rotation is looking pretty good with
Ian Kennedy, Hudson, Saunders, Collmentor, and Duke. The Bullpen is legit.
I just hope Upton CY, and Kelly Johnson can start hitting. If those 3 get going this club is going to be tough.

And beating the Marlins who are better than most of their recent victories. After Florida is the Pirates and Nats so they should keep it going for a coupla weeks at least.
My Parras and Uptons going up tomorrow nite...
