I'd say these rosters are pretty darn impressive. Glad to see Moore make it.

2011 Futures Game: U.S. Roster

Elite outfield prospects highlight American lineup

By Will Lingo
June 23, 2011

Major League Baseball and Baseball America are proud to announce the rosters for the 2011 All-Star Futures Game, which will be held July 10 in Phoneix. The game features a United States-World matchup, with two 25-man rosters made up of 10 pitchers, two catchers, four corner infielders, four middle infielders and five outfielders.

This is the roster for the U.S. team.

Jarred ?Cosart, rhp
Phillies
High Class A Clearwater (Florida State)
Cosart has as electric an arm as anyone in the minor leagues, with a fastball that frequently sits in the high 90s. If he can stay healthy and refine his command, he can be a frontline starter.

Kyle Gibson, rhp
Twins
Triple-A Rochester (International)
Gibson has had the misfortune of pitching for unsuccessful minor league teams, but his well-rounded repertoire and outstanding slider give him all the ingredients for big league success.

Matt Harvey, rhp
Mets
High Class A ?St. Lucie (Florida State)
In an organization that can use good news, the Mets have to be pleased with how Harvey has pitched since they made him the seventh overall pick in 2010. He should take a fast path to New York.

Shelby ?Miller, rhp
Cardinals
Double-A Springfield (Texas)
The Cardinals have tried to put Miller on a patient path, but he broke through to Double-A this year and could move quickly from here. He's in the discussion for best pitching prospect in the minors.

Matt Moore, lhp
Rays
Double-A Montgomery (Southern)
The Rays just seem to keep cranking out the young talent, and Moore doesn't take a back seat to anyone. His no-hitter in June only re-emphasized that he has top-of-the-rotation stuff.

Brad Peacock, rhp
Nationals
Double-A Harrisburg (Eastern)
If you're looking for a breakout prospect from this year's game, Peacock might be your man. After four nondescript seasons, he put it all together this year and led the Eastern League in strikeouts as of late June.

Drew ?Pomeranz, lhp
Indians
High Class A Kinston (Carolina)
Like Matt Harvey, Pomeranz is a 2010 first-round college pitcher with power stuff who didn't pitch last year but has shown this season that he won't need a lot of minor league seasoning.

Tyler ?Skaggs, lhp
Diamondbacks
High Class A Visalia (California)
Arizona has rebuilt around pitching in the last year, and getting Skaggs from the Angels in the Dan Haren deal last July looks like it will pay dividends. His best pitch is his above-average curveball.

Tyler Thornburg, rhp
Brewers
Low Class A Wisconsin (Midwest)
Thornburg is another college pitcher from the 2010 draft, though not nearly as celebrated out of Charleston Southern. His fastball and power curve have overmatched Midwest League hitters.

Jacob ?Turner, rhp
Tigers
Double-A? Erie (Eastern)
Turner was one of the top arms in the 2009 draft but fell to the ninth overall pick, where Detroit was happy to grab him. He has everything needed to pitch at the top of a big league rotation.

Devin ?Mesoraco, c
Reds
Triple-A Louisville (International)
Mesoraco, a 2007 first-rounder, has moved through the Reds system perhaps a bit slower than expected, but he has all the tools to be an above-average offensive performer behind the plate.

Austin ?Romine, c
Yankees
Double-A? Trenton (Eastern)
With the catching talent in the Yankees organization, Romine may have the best shot to establish himself behind the plate full-time. He also was putting up career-best offensive numbers this season.

Nolan ?Arenado, 3b
Rockies
High Class A Modesto (California)
Arenado was a high school shortstop who has now moved to third base and might end up as Todd Helton's heir at first base in Colorado. His power bat should play at either position.

James ?Darnell, 3b
Padres
Double-A San Antonio (Texas)
Darnell was bothered by a hand injury in 2010, but his second shot at Double-A has been much more successful, re-establishing him as one of the best hitters in the Padres organization.

Paul ?Goldschmidt, 1b
Diamondbacks
Double-A? Mobile (Southern)
Goldschmidt has consistently put up good numbers, including 35 home runs last season, but he has made believers out of everyone this year by continuing to produce in Double-A.

Will ?Middlebrooks, 3b
Red Sox
Double-A Portland (Eastern)
Middlebrooks has taken a slow and steady development path through the Red Sox system, and his well-rounded offensive and defensive skills should have him ready for a big league look next year.

Chase ?d'Arnaud, ss
Pirates
Triple-A Indianapolis (International)
D'Arnaud's brother Travis plays in the Blue Jays organization and is one of the top catching prospects in the game, and Chase has bounced back strong this year after struggling last season.

Grant ?Green, ss
Athletics
Double-A Midland (Texas)
Green profiles as a legitimate shortstop with above-average offensive production for the position. Moving up to Double-A has dented his power production, though he's still getting on base.

Jason ?Kipnis, 2b
Indians
Triple-A Columbus (International)
Kipnis, a converted outfielder who has looked at home at second base, has the ability to hit for both average and power that could make him an all-star at the position. He should get to the big leagues soon.

Manny Machado, ss
Orioles
High Class A Frederick (Carolina)
Machado was the third overall pick in the 2010 draft and has looked the part in his first full season. Though a left knee injury kept him out for a month, he has flashed a standout bat and glove.

Gary ?Brown, of
Giants
High Class A San Jose (California)
Brown broke his left middle finger last May just before the draft, slowing him down last summer, but he has shown his full range of skills this year, highlighted by a potent bat and blazing speed.

Bryce ?Harper, of
Nationals
Low Class A Hagerstown (South Atlantic)
It's hard to believe, but Harper has actually lived up to his advance billing so far in his professional debut. His advanced approach to hitting and power should pave a smooth road to Washington.

Wil ?Myers, of
Royals
Double-A Northwest Arkansas (Texas)
Myers first fell and cut his knee earlier this year, requiring stitches, then had to fight off an infection in the knee, but the freak injuries won't do much to slow his path to Kansas City.

Matt ?Szczur, of
Cubs
Low Class A Peoria (Midwest)
Better known as a standout football player at Villanova headed into the 2010 draft, Szczur has turned his focus to baseball and has shown off his amazing tools this year, highlighted by his speed.

Mike ?Trout, of
Angels
Double-A Arkansas (Texas)
The other player in the argument for top prospect in the minor leagues (along with Bryce Harper) will now be in the same outfield with him. Trout offers less power but more speed.

2011 Futures Game: World Roster

World team features plenty of talent on the mound

By Will Lingo
June 23, 2011

Major League Baseball and Baseball America are proud to announce the rosters for the 2011 All-Star Futures Game, which will be held July 10 in Phoneix. The game features a United States-World matchup, with two 25-man rosters made up of 10 pitchers, two catchers, four corner infielders, four middle infielders and five outfielders.

This is the roster for the World team.

Henderson ?Alvarez, rhp
Blue Jays
Double-A ?New Hampshire (Eastern)
Venezuela
Alvarez has moved a step at a time through the Jays system, up to Double-A this year after opening in high Class A, with his stuff getting better as he has matured. His fastball now touches 98 mph.

Liam ?Hendriks, rhp
Twins
Double-A? New Britain (Eastern)
Australia
The Twins mine Australia as aggressively as any organization, and Hendriks could be their best find. He was knocked out of the Futures Game last year by an appendectomy.

Kelvin Herrera, rhp
Royals
Double-A Northwest Arkansas (Texas)
Dominican Republic
Herrera got lost in the shuffle when he made just nine starts in two years due to elbow problems. A move to the bullpen has been the answer, as he has shown dominant stuff.

Gregori ?Infante, rhp
White Sox
Triple-A Charlotte (International)
Venezuela
Infante took off after switching to relief and has already seen big league bullpen time. He will eventually find a permanent role there thanks to a fastball that can touch triple digits.

Jhan Marinez, rhp
Marlins
Double-A Jacksonville (Southern)
Dominican Republic
The Marlins have a wealth of hard-throwing relievers in the minors, and Marinez stands out with an explosive fastball that can touch 98 mph. He has the stuff to close if he sharpens his command.

Carlos Martinez, rhp
Cardinals
Low Class A? Quad Cities (Midwest)
Dominican Republic
After his signing with the Red Sox in 2009 was nixed and he was suspended for a year, Martinez signed with the Cardinals last summer and has shown this year what all the fuss was about.

James ?Paxton, lhp
Mariners
Low Class A Clinton (Midwest)
Canada
Paxton didn't sign out of the 2009 draft, then held out until February before signing with the Mainers as their 2010 fourth-rounder. He has shown his potent fastball/curveball combination this season.

Martin ?Perez, lhp
Rangers
Double-A? Frisco (Texas)
Venezuela
Perez struggled for the first time in his career last year as a 19-year-old in Double-A, but his return trip has been much more successful and he has flashed his dominant form again.

Julio Teheran, rhp
Braves
Triple-A? Gwinnett (International)
Colombia
Teheran ranked as the top pitching prospect in the game coming into the season, and he earned his first big league callup in May. It won't be long before he's up in Atlanta permanently.

Arodys Vizcaino, rhp
Braves
Double-A Mississippi (Southern)
Dominican Republic
Vizcaino ranked with Martin Perez and Julio Teheran as the best international amateur prospects signed in 2007. Vizcaino joined the Braves in the Javier Vazquez trade in December 2009.

Wilin ?Rosario, c
Rockies
Double-A? Tulsa (Texas)
Dominican Republic
Rosario was actually having his breakout season last year, but a torn ACL in August cut that short. He has picked up where he left off, though, offering premium tools at the plate and behind it.

Sebastian Valle, c
Phillies
High Class A Clearwater (Florida State)
Mexico
After three nondescript seasons in the Phillies system, Valle has come on like gangbusters in the last two years, and the Phillies have traded away other catching prospects to clear the way for him.

Yonder Alonso, 1b/of
Reds
Triple-A Louisville (International)
Cuba
Alonso continues to prove that he's a hitter, but with Joey Votto entrenched at first base in Cincinnati, he'll have to prove that he can hold down left field in the major leagues to get a full-time job.

Alex Liddi, 3b
Mariners
Triple-A ?Tacoma (Pacific Coast)
Italy
Liddi has gone from being a novelty as the first Italian position player to play organized baseball to putting himself on the brink of taking over at third base in Seattle.

Jefry Marte, 3b
Mets
High Class A? St. Lucie (Florida State)
Dominican Republic
After taking two years to get through low Class A, Marte has shown the offensive potential that got him signed in 2007. He's also starting to tap into his raw power.

Francisco ?Martinez, 3b
Tigers
Double-A ?Erie (Eastern)
Venezuela
Martinez jumped from the Gulf Coast League to high Class A in 2009 and has handled Double-A this season at age 20. He has prototype tools for third base, including a quick bat with power.

Jose ?Altuve, 2b
Astros
Double-A? Corpus Christi (Texas)
Venezuela
Altuve was viewed almost as a curiosity coming into the season at a listed 5-foot-7, but he has shown strong offensive production this season to go along with his standout defense, so he's legit.

Hak-Ju Lee, ss
Rays
High Class A Charlotte (Florida State)
South Korea
Lee joined the Rays in the Matt Garza trade with the Cubs in the offseason, and he is putting together the best offensive season of his career to complement his strong defensive skills.

Jurickson ?Profar, ss
Rangers
Low Class A Hickory (South Atlantic)
Curacao
Profar has drawn notice since he led Curacao to the 2004 Little League World Series championship, and he has shown this season that it's warranted, with premium defense and hitting skills.

Jonathan ?Schoop, ss
Orioles
High Class A Frederick (Carolina)
Curacao
Schoop emerged as a prospect last year and put himself firmly in the Orioles' plans this year by performing with the bat and glove. He has the skills to play second or third base or shortstop.

Chih-Hsien Chiang, of
Red Sox
Double-A Portland (Eastern)
Taiwan
The Red Sox signed Chiang in 2005, and he did little to stand out in his first five seasons. But his bat really came around this season, as he has shown an ability to hit for both average and power.

Reymond ?Fuentes, of
Padres
High Class A? Lake Elsinore (California)
Puerto Rico
Fuentes was part of the Padres' haul in the Adrian Gonzalez trade with the Red Sox in December, and his speed should make him the center fielder of the future in San Diego.

Starling ?Marte, of
Pirates
Double-A Altoona (Eastern)
Dominican Republic
Marte has the speed and defensive ability to push Andrew McCutchen to an outfield corner when he arrives in Pittsburgh. He just need to continue improving his plate discipline.

Alfredo ?Silverio, of
Dodgers
Double-A Chattanooga (Southern)
Dominican Republic
Silverio has moved slowly through the Dodgers system since signing in November 2003, but neither he nor the Dodgers gave up and it looks like their patience is paying off this season.

Dayan ?Viciedo, of
White Sox
Triple-A Charlotte (International)
Cuba
After working on the infield corners in his first two years in the White Sox organization, Viciedo has played right field this year and should be able to stay in the outfield. His bat should play anywhere.

Now, let's hope Topps picks up on how impressive these rosters are, and brings back the subset in 2011 BDP. Even though many of these guys already have cards.

Chase ?d'Arnaud is getting called up (Josh Harrison sent down). Does that affect his ability to play in the Futures Game?

Alex Pressley and Brad Lincoln are supposed to be up next week.

Moore is really racking up the honors this season. He deserves the exposure, he is not only a great pitcher, he's got a great fan friendly attitude.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm counting 29 teams with at least one representative. Not sure who the last team is.

Martin Perez was expected but Jurickson being named surprised me. I figured next year would be his Futures Game coming out party.

Nice to see a hometown guy like Middlebrooks on there.

Now need to see Heathcott on the roster in a year or two and maybe Stilson when he bounces back from injury.
