Probably my favorite kind of guys (when it comes to cards.) A single rookie autograph and no parallels, so when the demand spikes, that's the card to get. In the early years this was largely the standard (with sets like Topps Traded and Bowman Draft Picks) but recently it's a been a rare bird.

I started putting together a bit of a list of better players who fit the standards (all auto's) but I know I'm missing tons of guys, so feel free to add names (and share your thoughts on these guys.)

1997 Bowman Roy Halladay
1999 Topps Traded Carl Crawford
1999 Topps Traded CC Sabathia
1999 Topps Traded Josh Hamilton
1999 Topps Traded Adam Dunn
1999 Topps Traded Alfonso Soriano
2000 Bowman Draft Picks Adrian Gonzalez
2000 Bowman Draft Picks Grady Sizemore
2000 Topps Traded Miguel Cabrera
2000 Topps Traded Michael Young
2003 Bowman Heritage Robinson Cano

And on that note, my most recent pick-up:

One that immediately comes to mind is the 1994 Upper Deck ARod autograph.

Also, I believe 1997 Bowman had parallels.

Asdrubal Cabrera - 2007 Topps Update 2007 Highlights Autographs

And yes, the 1997 Bowman autos had parallels.

Not sure if this counts, but Adam Jones only has one auto in both 2003 (first appearance on ML cards) and in 2006 (official RC season).

Totally forgot the Halladay has the different color inks. Good point...

Never knew that on the Cabrera. Seems like somewhat of an obscure card, but definitely pretty sweet.

Good scavenger hunt.
2002 Prospect Premieres Prince Fielder as well.

No. The 02 UDPP was an XRC for Prince so he has a ton of 05 auto RCs.
Call it whatever you want.It was his first card in a pro uniform. To most that is his rookie card.

Don't think he fits into the "star" category yet, but Jaime Garcia is a recent example that comes to mind. (possibly the only one I can think of)

He has a Bowman auto, but it's a Signs of the Future auto which I don't think there are any parallels of.

Five years ago, i would have agreed with you. But since i no longer care, i wont lol

that being said, these:

1997 Bowman Roy Halladay
1999 Topps Traded Carl Crawford
1999 Topps Traded CC Sabathia
1999 Topps Traded Josh Hamilton
1999 Topps Traded Adam Dunn

2000 Bowman Draft Picks Adrian Gonzalez
2000 Bowman Draft Picks Grady Sizemore
2000 Topps Traded Miguel Cabrera
2000 Topps Traded Michael Young
2003 Bowman Heritage Robinson Cano

by definition, are inserts, and NOT "Rookie Cards". Rookie Year Issues sure, but not "RCs"

I hear you. My list though, was focusing on players for whom there is only a single option as far as RC Auto's when he gets hot. Since nowadays people define "RC" in a more limited fashion (I am inclined to lean that way) the reality is that for a guy like Fielder, when he gets hot the demand is spread over many different cards.

When put that way I understand your stance.

Not sure Bowman 1997 counts as "parallels", more link ink variations.
The idea I was going for was a player who had just a singular card for RC Auto collectors to target. Even for a player like Halladay, the base blue auto's are limited (slightly) because some collectors will target the other ink versions. With someone like Crawford, Cabrera or Cano there is truly only a single option. (In the realm of RC Auto's.)

I don't know if this meets your criteria, but the guy who hit 2 homeruns for the D'Backs yesterday has just one licensed first-year auto:
2008 Bowman Signs of the Future - Gerardo Parra
