There are a few guys here (mostly MTers) who already know this, but my grandfather played in the Major Leagues from 1960-1969

I am well on my way to completing his entire Beckett checklist, with a few extreme rarities left, but I recently had the chance
to scan all of my families photos, articles, keepsakes, etc; and I thought I would share some baseball history...

The cards and all other scans can be viewed here: Dave Nicholson Collection

Here are the results of the recent scanning project...

I love a collection with personal significance. Very cool you have a digital archive now. Thanks for sharing this extensive look at your grandpa.

Probably not, but do you know of any video of his 575 ft. homer?

Charlie - Incredible archive on your grandfather!
I learned quite a bit and had no idea he had a home run that measured longer than Mickey Mantle's.
Thank you very much for this peek into an amazing family member of yours. :D

Amazing stuff.

Just curious, as I was trying to figure out the contracts towards the end. Did the Orioles hire your great grandfather (Lawrence?) as a scout after they signed your granddad to his first contract?

That's awesome! My great-grandpa was a baseball enthusiast. I really wish he was still alive. I plan to do some digging when I am older to see if I can find any of his stuff.

Thanks for all the questions/comments/compliments guys!

Jesse - yep...kinda the way things were done back then. no hard feelings though, as they are pictured together in the Sox uniform newspaper clipping

Brian - yes they did. he had extensive knowledge of all the midwestern league players from traveling to my grandfathers games.

Dave - I have several of the photos framed as well as all his major topps issues on my office walls.

Brad - as far as I know, there is no video. I don't believe the game was televised

So he hit the HR off the guy, then he got drilled in the face?

So, out of all the information presented, THIS is what you took away from it?
You're killin' me, Smalls!
I thought I was the only one that picked up on the same pitcher being involved ;)

Awesome collection. What history!

That's really awesome. My Grandfather had a shot with the Cardinals, played in low-level affiliates, but then went off to WW2 and never went back to baseball.

That is something that your daughter is going to be thrilled to inherit. A+ work Charlie.
