It's not every year that someone gets a 30 game hitting streak, so it's always fun to follow hitters as they toil away. Since 1900, there have been 45 streaks of 30 games or longer.

Although there have been 45 of these streaks, it is amazing to me how many of them ended exactly at 30. Nine of the previous 13 (and 17 of all 44, not counting Uggla's current streak) hitting streaks of 30 games or longer ended at exactly 30 games:

1997 Sandy Alomar, Jr
1997 Nomar Garciaparra
1998 Eric Davis
1999 Luis Gonzalez
2003 Albert Pujols
2006 Willy Taveras
2007 Moises Alou
2009 Ryan Zimmerman
2011 Andre Ethier

The four (of the past 13) that went past 30:
2005-06 Jimmy Rollins 38
2006 Chase Utley 35
2002 Luis Castillo 35
1999 Vladimir Guerrero 31

Get to 31 games, you are tied with the 20th longest streak since 1900.

Other notables that had streaks end at 30 games:
1980 George Brett (his .390 season)
1950 Stan Musial
1929-30 Sam Rice
1912 Tris Speaker

This morning Dan Patrick was discussing Uggla's hitting streak in terms of his current batting average. He is somewhere around 70 points lower than anyone else who had a 30+ hitting streak. I think Willy Tavares, Jimmy Rollins and Benito Santiago were the next lowest.
