ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays placed Justin Ruggiano on the 15-day disabled list with left knee bursitis Wednesday and recalled shortstop Reid Brignac from Triple-A Durham.
Ruggiano was hitting .255 with four homers and 13 RBIs this season before the injury, but he had not played much since the team recalled Desmond Jennings from Durham on July 23.
On the other side of the move, Brignac is returning to the Rays for the first time since being optioned to Triple-A when Jennings was promoted. Brignac posted a .231 batting average to go along with one homer in 11 games with the Bulls.
To continue the Rays' shortstop shuffle, they also promoted Tim Beckham from Double-A Montgomery to Durham and Hak-Ju Lee from Class A Charlotte to Montgomery on Wednesday.
Beckham hit .275 with seven home runs and 57 RBIs in 107 games with the Biscuits this season. The 21-year-old also stole 10 bases, but committed a team-leading 20 errors.
Lee, who was acquired in the trade that sent Matt Garza to the Cubs in the offseason, led Charlotte with a .317 batting average this season and collected four homers and 22 RBIs. However, he also struggled in the field with 16 errors.
