I was just wondering what the proper etiquette is for sending a card to be signed. I assume you include a SASE, but is there something else that helps?

Also, what is the best way to send the card? Toploader with a couple pieces of cardboard? Would players get annoyed having to take a card out of a toploader to sign?

Thanks for the input!

For current players I just include a simple please and thank you note along with the SASE. Don't send the cards in a toploader, all you need to do is wrap them in the request letter and they will be fine.

It depends.

If I am writing to an older (retired) player, I try to write a nice lengthy letter and tell them what I like about their career. If he is a current or prospect, I just write a short note.

As for sending the card, JustinG08 said it best. If it's a thick one I would write "Do Not Bend" on the envelope.

Thanks for the input! I have never sent any cards for TTM autos, but I figure it would be cool to send a few off and see if I get them back. I do like the way IP/TTM autos look in PSA/DNA slabs, too.

Who are you sending too?

Ernie Broglio --- he was my pitching coach in high school
Kevin Costner --- I have a couple of those 1988 Star Bull Durham baseball cards that I'd love to get signed

Is there one website in particular that anybody here likes listing the most recent addresses for Hollywood celebrities? I found Ernie Broglio's easily, but I found a number of different addresses for Costner (as I expected).

Some require a membership for full use, but it isn't too expensive. FCB had a database but it must have disappeared. There is also the request address thread.

Most celebrities also have their own website, so you can dig around for an address or email to use for a request.

I also sometimes google search "(person) TTM Autograph" because you can uncover forum postings with addresses in them.

Costner's TTM are usually fake.

That would suck. Maybe it would be best to just hit up a signing session and go the IP route. Is there a site that lays out the schedule for celebrities like Costner?

Sometimes celebrities post appearances on their websites, but I think places like StarTiger and SCN will be your best bet.

Keep an eye out for any movies he may be in too. Celebrities signing habits are different on set then they are at their homes.

I appreciate all the information. It's nice to have knowledgeable individuals on this site to sort of guide me through the process.
