their second annual photoshopped uniform blog posting.

This time featuring Pujols in every MLB uniform (with two of them inaccurate, one by admission).

http://www.beckett.com/news/2011/11/pujolsfakes/

should be interesting to see again what kind of national and local press this one gets (the Jeter last year was mentioned in my local paper and I think in SI as well).

If Beckett had waited another week, they could have been a little more accurate on those unis (ie: Toronto, NY (NL), Baltimore, Cleveland)

didn't know Mets, Orioles and Tribe are unveiling new unis. I just knew about the Marlins and Blue Jays.

Going back to the Pujols photoshop, there are several teams in which the uniform colors don't agree wtih him. I think he looks most natural as a White sox if we were to say who he should sign with from a fashion POV. ;)

I'd have to pass on that card. The corners are weak and look like they are starting to round

Heaven forbid someone try and have some fun.

Oh wait, it's Beckett, therefore no matter what they do, it must be bashed!

I wonder if the world would end if Leaf and Beckett ever teamed up to do anything... They don't have anything planned for December 12th of next year, do they?

what do you see wrong with this article? I kinda like it.

If you are like me and read only their blog, most of the items posted are for the hobby collectors.

You come across a piece like this (fun as it is) and it's a cry or pleading for national and local media attention since they don't do much otherwise that the world outside of sports card trading cares about.

btw, I'd imagine you could pry Susan from their blog - she probably just works for Cano or Jeter or Pujols or Yankee prospect cards. ;)

That is exactly the kind of content I am looking for on FCB

If I could afford Olds, I would hire him in a second.

Other than a spare 150 lbs, excessive smarminess and a bad haircut, what does Olds have that 20 other FCB members don't have?

He's a poor writer and a poor historian whereas there are some VERY intelligent and capable writers here on FCB with a history that goes back further than Olds. Don't try to re-tread what's already been forged. Find new talent here, as the pool is quite deep.

If many people could take the pay cut, and be a "hobby specialist" full time, you'd have some insanely good writing on your site.

I don't care about the 150 lbs.

I like the snarkyness.

I don't care about the bad haircut. Neither should you btw, what you looking for a date or something? It always creeps me out when dudes are worried about what other dudes look like.

Hes a VERY good writer. Read other hobby content out there and then read his, I promise you his is better.

I have. It's not.

Not even close. It's written for a 12 year old -- which, I understand, is Beckett's target audience... but it's not what you should want.

And if you want snarky... look who you're talking to..

:)

I'm going to have to agree with this. I have read MANY blogs, news articles, stories, etc... that focus on this hobby. He's writing isn't very deep and is written to the level of a junior HS student. FCB should aspire to someone along the lines of George Vrechek of SCD.

I agree with Gilmore that this ‘type’ of article is exactly what any hobby related web site should strive for with regards to original material(s). It’s interesting, it’s fun and creative, but most importantly it speaks to a wide variety of baseball fans and hobbyists. It’s an article that will be talked about (such as here) and spread around, and would no doubt bring in new hits to FCB, which in turn translates to new members.

When he said it was exactly the type of stuff he is looking for here, I believe this is what he meant, and not necessarily the actual writing style per see. It’s easy to write a creative article that speaks to and about a specific ‘thing’, but to compose an article that has all the attributes listed above is indeed an art form.

Anyway, not trying to put words in anyone’s mouth, just giving my 2.

When I was doing one of the my contract shifts at Beckett (after l was no longer there full-time), I was told that Chris was coming aboard in about six weeks. My initial reaction was that was a great hire and nothing I have heard or seen since then has changed my mind.

Rich
