I went to bat for her engagement ring

“My girlfriend and I had been together for about three years, and I was sure she was the one I wanted to marry. Problem was, I didn’t exactly have enough money to get her a good engagement ring. So, in order to raise funds, I put my collection of baseball trading cards on eBay. We’re talking a collection that spanned, like, 20 years, thanks to some cards handed down by my dad. I was totally bummed to part with them because they were so important to me, but I really, really loved this girl. I ended up making more than enough money to pay for a ring. Problem was, when I got down on one knee, she told me that she couldn’t see spending the rest of her life with me. I should’ve stuck with Shoeless Joe Jackson.”

lol...

I'll never understand how someone could misread a relationship to be turned down when asking her to marry him.

I mean I've made bad relationship decisions, but that one always blows me away.

I feel for the guy.

Moral of this: never let women get ahead of your hobby especially after spending years to build and complete

I don't think it's very easy to read women all the time but I agree with the above that if you don't know how they will answer the question already, I don't think you should ask it. I mean, this isn't one of those kinda/maybe/sorta things. It's pretty damn clear most of the time. If they aren't crazy about you, they most likely won't say yes and if they do anyways, it could be a nightmare.

I did the same thing this guy did, my result was just the opposite. My wife probably isnt crazy about my hobby but she knows I enjoy it. Plus she gets to use a good portion of the profit I make to buy stuff for our daughter.

I'll just never understand this whole buying of rings and diamonds thing. If you're going to blow a bunch of money on someone, why not have it be an experience that you can enjoy together and reflect on the rest of your days. I'm not sure how the diamond folks got us to buy in to this materialistic idea where naturally occurring gems, quite plentifully I might add, equate to a loving relationship, but this crazy idea has stuck for generations. They are master manipulators and we are sheep. It's like why do we value rookie cards so much more than other cards of that player simply because it's their first? Okay, maybe not

They say love is blind and people do strange things when they think they are in love.

I feel for the guy. Then again, last year I ended up selling off more than a few cards I wish I had back (including a 2005 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor BGS 9.5 Carlos Gonzalez) to be able to help out my then girlfriend with some ******** excuses she had for needing $. Even at the time I knew she was just suckering me for everything and anything she could get, but I still went along with it and have no one to blame but myself.

If she reciprocated appropriately, you might be the smartest guy in this thread.
