There is a photo of Mike Minor that you can use of him pitching in front of the scoreboard at Fenway. The photo is entitled "Home of the Braves".

Either this is a very very subtle homage to the old Boston Braves, or simple incompetence.

Depending on the price, it might be kinda cool. What a brave new world we live in.

I see this as a cool thing for young kids, if they can have their favorite player say their name and happy birthday. For a collector, perhaps not as much. A modern and improved form of the form response letter and facs sig postcards I used to get when I was a 7 year old.

I checked out the Thome - assuming I did it right, its cheaper than I thought it would be at $75. Frankly I think this is pretty cool especially if you get a personalized voice message along with the inscription.

Will they do phone machine messages?

"Hi, this is Evan Longoria. You've reached Steve's phone, but he can't answer right now. He and I are out tossing back beers and chasing skirts. Leave a message after the beep, and Steve will get back to you"....Beep

The fact that this is purely for the fan and should have no recourse for secondary profit makes me love this idea! What a great way to get or give a personal moment in time with a personality/professional you admire!

Your reasoning is idiotic.

Obviously I disagree, it stands to reason that players who do this will feel less obliged to sign in person as this offers a means to acquire the personal representation a fan may want. Will this be the end of all autographs? Clearly no, but It is not idiotic to think that players who are offering there services here will sign less in person.

These players have been paid to sign their entire pro career. This changes exactly nothing in that respect.

this is Gabe kaplers creation.
I think they started this earlier this summer and IMO going to be a total failure.
I do see they have more than the 3-4 guys they had last I looked.

yes and no.. If you are getting paid to sign autographs more "often" (keep in mind the private signings really don't occur over the year as much as the off season) don't you think someone getting paid will be more incline to sign things for money during the season vs. for free at the game? I don't do MLB autographing anymore anyway.. its a waste of time.

Where do you get that there aren't signings during the season? Every single player on the White Sox has had at least one signing in the area during the season. I can't imagine they are an outlier.
