After giving zero run support to Bum's quality start, they hit 6 homers to back Timmy's shaky outing. Figures.

Panda went off today. I read that he and BamBam were going over tape and Panda thought he saw something, then told Meulens that he'd get to sit back and enjoy the party.

After jacking his solo shot, Crawford teased Pablo about being 1 homer away from catching him. Pablo apparently said "Oh yeah? Just wait." Pablo LOL'ed at Craw after each homer.

Where was all this swagger 2 months ago?

Oh so close.... But he's still making a case for possibly being Ryan Vogelsong 2.0.

What sort of ceiling do you guys see for MadBum? Is the MadBum we see now all he's going to be, or do you think there's more?

I think that MadBum is going to have a Kershaw ceiling. He's already a top 10 pitcher in the NL this year and honestly, I feel like he is underappreciated.

And again - I hope Casilla is replaced by Hembree. Casilla blew MadBum's win yesterday. :(

LOL, as I listened to Casilla blow the the decision on the radio, I recalled that I sort of defended him here.

I've considered a comparison to Kershaw, but I just don't see it yet. On an age comparison, Kershaw had a Cy Young Award when he was 23, and a 2nd place finish when he was 24. Bum hasn't come close yet, and he just turned 24 this year. Bum's good, but he hasn't shown me that he's Kershaw-good yet.

I think that Bumgarner is still getting better. I think that Bumgarner could be a top 5 starter in the MLB, and he could easily be the #1 pitcher for the Giants in the rotation. He's their top starter this year IMO and was an All Star. We forget though that Bumgarner has already gotten 2 WS rings. I would be happy with him being a top of the rotation starter for the next 10 years.

While rings are awesome, they're not always an indicator of how good a guy is (Eli Whiteside has 2 rings as well).

Bumgarner's biggest problem right now is that when he gets broadsided by a bad start, it tends to linger for a few games. Last year when he was horrible in the playoffs, he fixed a "mechanical flaw" and threw 7 dominant shutout innings in the World Series.

If he can figure out a way to fix those flaws mid-game or immediately after a bad game, he'll start becoming a regular Cy Young contender.

Bumgarner has everything he needs to be a consistent top 3 MLB pitcher. Just look at his consistently low WHIP, that's one of the hardest stats to keep low for pitchers and his always seems to be lingering around 1.00

If he can get consistent and learn to catch a blow up before it gets too blown up, he can be one of the best.

Looks like Bowman Chrome's going to include Edwin Escobar this year. Hopefully they'll get Mac Williamson into it too...

BUYHM8tCcAAN6kl.jpg

Giants got a 17 year old Escobar from the Rangers in 2009 in exchange for 23 year old lefty reliever Ben Snider. Snider never did anything, and Escobar at 21 is developing well.

Some are calling Escobar "Little Bumgarner," giving an idea of what some think his upside is. I don't know if I agree, but he's been solid so far.

There were a bunch of guys this year who have never appeared on a Topps or Bowman card yet...

Johnny Monell
Sandy Rosario
Juan Perez
Jake Dunning
Roger Kieschnick
Kensuke Tanaka

Topps is usually pretty good about getting guys on cardboard, but there have been some guys who never appeared on anything other than minor-league released cards who played for the Giants over the past 20 years:
Dan Otero (2012)
Ryan Rohlinger (2008-11)
Osiris Matos (2008-09)
Geno Espineli (2008)
Jalal Leach (2001)
Jeff Ball (1998)
Carlos Valdez (1995)
Steve Mintz (1995)
Kenny Greer (1995)
Enrique Burgos (1995)

The Giants brass decided to delete the one remaining thing worth watching in these final 5 games: MadBum has been deactivated. He's not hurt though, just getting an early start to the off-season. Zito gets a "farewell" start tomorrow instead.

I guess with the rebuilding this team is going to need to get involved in, getting a protected pick would be good. That way they don't have to worry about sacrificing one to land a decent FA.

Hey, I just realized that with last night's win, the Giants clinched the season-series win over the Dodgers. If the Giants can take 1 from the Padres, they'll be the only NL West team with a winning record vs all NL West teams.

Ironic, considering the smoking crater of a season this has been. The only thing the Giants did right this year was beat the NL West. Everyone else kicked their butts.

That is totally ironic! I have hope for next year at least. Just need to shore up the bullpen issues, resolve the issues with starting pitching (and I'm liking what I have seen from Petit), and fix LF, and I think that we will be a good team next year.

I heard that Lincecum will be sporting Seattle colors next season... Thoughts?

it would make sense since he can legally smoke pot there and that he has a history in the state so why not spend the end of your career with your homearea team.

Rumors. I don't know how badly the Giants want him back. I know they'll make the $14m/1 year qualifying offer, but I don't know how agressivly they'll pursue anything beyond that. Giants brass has made it sound like they're planning on doing what it takes to have him back next year, but it's not uncommon for the Giants brass to say one thing and do another.

The fact that they declined to trade Lincecum, Pence, or Lopez at the deadline or after they were claimed on wavers makes me think they either really want them back, or they didn't like the offers they were getting and would rather have a draft pick.
