I bought a small card lot on eBay for 9.99. The shipping was 2.00. The postman rang my doorbell and told me that 43 cents postage was due. I paid from my change jar.

Now, what feedback should I leave? Do I contact the seller first? The money is no big deal, but it is certainly a pain in the butt and poor selling practice.

Never heard of that happening before. I'd probably just message the seller and let him know. Wouldn't leave feedback, just keep moving.

How much postage was on the package? $2 for s/h is quite cheap, and I'd be more annoyed if I'd paid 3.99 or similar, and then had it sent postage due.

You could send a polite note to the seller, and/or take a couple stars of the DSRs. I wouldn't consider that a reason to leave neutral or negative feedback however.

I've had sellers try to send packages of cards to me as Media Mail. Then it arrives to my door and there is postage due. (They're not supposed to send it Media Mail as this is supposed to be a bulk service, I believe)

Ask them to refund your $.43 and leave positive feedback with maybe 4 stars on shipping. Sounds like the package should have arrived fine and it's just an overzealous Postal employee. It costs $1.69 to ship up to 3 ounces and that's WITH tracking, so I don't see why your small lot should have been $2.43.

There was 1.43 postage on there.

I agree that, as the package came quickly and without damage, a negative is too strong. I am leaning towards messaging him to let him know so that he doesn't make the same mistake. The problem is that I don't know what the mistake was.

Well if he bought the postage through eBay, then he probably didn't weigh the package before buying it. As long as the cards weren't damage, I'd just message him with an FYI.

AGreed, he probably didn't weigh it before printing the label.

I'd message him, ask him to pay/refund the $1.43 since I think that it is too much to let slide and then leave Feedback accordingly. I wouldn't go with a Negative but IF he doesn't pay it, I'd ding his DSR fursure...

The route I'd take too. No dings , id give positive FB, just give seller a heads up to correct issue and move on.

*wouldn't ask for any refund either

Mistakes happen if the seller refunds you give him the five stars no harm no foul. This happened to me I ended up refunding the entire shipping charge. Be courteous and I believe it will come back

Usps makes mistakes too. Had this had once. But they will never call the buyer and let them know, it was their mistake.

Don't kill the ratings unless you have some proof it was done purposely.

Send an email to the seller, let them know, offer pic of envelope as evidence and go from there. Listen to jc, between the 2 of us, u have 30 years of ebay exp giving u help.

"Thank you for a quick and well packaged item. I just wanted to let you know it arrived safe and sound, however it did also come with a postage due of $0.43 cents. I am not trying to call you out for a few pennies but rather just wanted to make you aware that buyers (including me) are possibly being charged to simply accept your deliveries. I'm sure you want to do the right thing so feel free to refund me the $0.43 cents at your earliest convenience."

Nothing compensates for politeness, no experience required.

For me, it is mainly how the other party reacts, regardless of the specifics of the situation. If they make it right or come up with a reasonable alternative solution, then all should be OK and no corrective action is needed. If they come across as a jerk, then they get what they deserve.

I'll share this one and see if anyone has any thoughts one way or another. I bought a specific serial numbered card from a seller. The scan was not great, so actually seeing the serial number was not possible. When it arrived, it was wrong (didn't match the description). I don't blame the seller, as those serial numbers can be small and blend together. I only wanted the card for that specific serial number though, otherwise I would have either passed or paid much less than I did.

In the end, I asked for and received a refund, however I was required to return the card and that shipping cost came out of my own pocket. In the end, I didn't get a card I was excited to get and it cost me a couple bucks and some of my time for what turned out to be nothing. The seller also lost the shipping fee, since they did ship the card to me after I paid, as my refund equaled my purchase price plus the original shipping charge. I suggested to the seller that they might consider refunding my return shipping money as well as a good faith gesture, but they neither responded nor provided anything but the original purchase price (as required by ebay/paypal). As far as I can tell, they had no responsibility to refund me my cost of returning the card due to their own listing error.

Should the buyer incur ANY costs for a seller listing mistake that was sent and subsequently returned to them? I say no personally, but in this case it did cost me. I have not left any feedback for this seller yet. Any thoughts on what they deserve?

Perfect solution. Don't ruin a guys life with paypal and dsr's over a simple mistake on his or usps behalf.

I think you got scammed by the mailman, he probably runs this game at every stop on his route. At the end of the day he's probably at a Coinstar banking it.

I wouldn't do anything as some post offices don't agree on items..

I sent a package thru my post office to Hawaii.. when it got there, they owed something like $0.20.. The person I sold it to didn't want to pay the $0.20 so they sent it back to me.. and I reshipped it to them for the same amount in a new envelope and it worked fine the 2nd time..

The amount of time and energy some of you guys waste for $0.43 is amazing.. Package was delivered with no problems..

How many times have you shipped an item, where maybe your customer had to pay for the extra and didn't send you a note..

Just remember what goes around.. comes around!

Good luck..

I've had a few cards arrive postage due and I always just send the seller a note letting them know that it arrived postage due, I can provide pictures if they would like, and ask them to refund the amount I had to pay. Usually it's an honest mistake, but the sellers really need to know about it if they're sending out stuff with incorrect postage. You'd be surprised how many people will insist up and down that a bubble mailer is a large envelope, not a package. There are many many postal employees that have not been trained properly on the difference as well and will send them out at the wrong rate.

Should the buyer incur ANY costs for a seller listing mistake that was sent and subsequently returned to them? I say no personally, but in this case it did cost me. I have not left any feedback for this seller yet. Any thoughts on what they deserve?

The seller did what ebay requires (refunding original sales plus shipping price) so I wouldn't leave a negative or a neutral unless I felt like it wasn't a "mistake", he was actually trying to scam me. In your case it sounds like it was probably an honest mistake and I'd just chalk it up as something that just happens once in a while and move on.

I'd email the seller And ask for a partial refund and if they become defensive id leAve a negative and ding dsr's

accidents happen but your leave neg and ding DSR attitude is part of what is wrong with eBay... Its only 43 cents... A small mistake is not worth a neg...

The whole comment please. I said if they came defensive which also means rude.

If they were completely nice and friendly and refunded me the 43 cents id be fine with that.

I'm not purchasing an item on eBay to let them deliver it to me and make me pay even if it's a small amount. You call that positive? I don't even if it's a small amount.
