As many of you already know, I've been trying to put together the entire set of 2000 Fleer Club 3000 cards. Not a real easy task. Here's the set breakdown. There are 14 players in the set. The set commerates the achievements of either 3000 strikeouts or 3000 hits. Each of the 14 players in the set has a card with six different variations as follows:

Base
Jersey
Bat
Hat
Bat / Jersey
Bat / Hat / Jersey

I am currently 15 cards away from completing the entire set of 84 cards. Sadly, I've been 15 cards from completing the set for about a year. These cards all highly sought after and prices are not cheap.

I must add that Fleer was way ahead of the game in the fact that on the reverse of each card, they pictured the ACTUAL bat, hat, and jersy where the memorabilia came from. What a concept! Especially 12 years ago!!!

Because my pickups have become rather stagnant in the past many months, I decided to expand this project. I'm trying to get each base card in the set auto'ed by each player. I have to say that I'm off to a pretty good start. I bought the Boggs and Brock from the bay. I got Carlton TTM. The Carew and Molitor came from Weimer at TwinsFest (thanks, bud!!!)

So, here is where I currently stand.

First, the autos....the newest part of the set.....

And now, here's my current completion for all players in the set...

Absolutely awesome! I loved that set, but alas as a youngster couldn't afford them, I pulled one of the single memorabilia variations and sold it to get more hobby bucks. I will add this into my rotation of items to look for when at shows and my internet searches, I'd love to see this thing complete! I really like the auto's as well and from what I hear, you can get Ryan to sign anything for a mere $55 donation which I feel is worth it if you have the means to do so.

That looks great, back in the day I pulled a Boggs jersey/bat. Sold it because he wasn't a Red Sox player on the card.

Looks Great!!

Couple things, why is the Molitor the only one numbered on the front, and have you ever seen a base card that has a guy on the front and back of the card? I have one that is Brett and Yaz, is that the way they came I can't remember!

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I've been meaning to get these cards scanned for a while now....

peetsahut - I too pulled a Brock jersey card back in the day. In fact, it was only of the first GU cards I ever pulled and it was a big deal b/c GU cards were such a big deal back then. I guess pulling that card is what got me involved to go after the set. I just love the look abd design of these.

Shep - I'm not sure why the Molitor is #ed on front but it's not a surprise. Thereare a lot of little idiosyncrasies in the set. The card numbering is all over the place. A base card with a guy on front and back????? Never heard of it. Do you mean the 3000 logo on both the front and back???: Like the front of a base card on both front and back? I'd love to see a scan......

Oh my lord!!!!!!!!

I did not see those!!!! :( :( :( :( :( I would have paid much more than that for either one of those!!!!

Horribly listed in my opinion....does not say "3000" anywhere in the title. How in the hell did you find them??????

Thanks for sharing, great job putting them together. One of the best game used sets of all time in my opinion.

Awesome cards. At first I was thinking I wish they would have waited a couple of years to get Rickey into this or continue the set each year to add more players. But then again I don't know if I would want more pricey cards to track down.

Is it possible that the Molitor is actually a buy back from Fleer National Pastime? I know they released a ton of back stock as "buy backs" in that product.

Awesome stuff.
Loved seeing this set come together over the years too!

Some of these are monsters to find.
Good luck with the rest.

You know how much I hate you, Russ......

Out of the entire set, aside from the triples (have 4 and need 10), there are only four cards I need....

Boggs bat/jersey
Yount bat /jersey
Ryan hat
Ripken hat

Did you see that last one????? You torment me!!!!

Awesome card, bud!

I've thought the same thing and I've heard there were some buybacks.

Here's my take: The Molitor is numbered on the front but not the back. So........either 1 of 2 scenarios:

1) Was a card that was numbered different than all the rest.

2) was a buyback (maybe from the bankruptcy) b/c there is no numbering on the back???

Either way, It's legit. These have to be the toughest cards ever to fake based on their design..,...
