Tough to tell from the scan but the 2001 Pacific Mulder is the Hobby LTD version, 24/70. Khris Davis is a 2017 Gold Refractor 15/50. And Elvis Andrus is the Memorial Day Camo version, 05/25.

Same idea here. I hadn't seen an FCG slab in hand so I grabbed a cheapie I wanted anyway. Grade looks overly severe but I haven't really taken a loupe to it yet. The edges certainly don't look that bad to the naked eye . The slab is just basically a PSA slab. The label is gold lettering on a black slab which did not show up at all in the scan. I'm going to have to play with scanner settings if I get any more FCG stuff.

Way to take one for the team with these oddball grading companies. I noticed in the past, a lot of them must have been self-grading their own cards to the extreme. The price to have a card graded vs the cards that showed up in holders was pretty varied. Kind of like COMC. A lot of the long time employees there have an insane amount of cards listed. I am willing to bet they either didn't have to pay a thing or got an extremely heavy discount, perhaps to help promote and build the site's supply and reputation. No way anyone paid the going rate for that many scrubby cards to be scanned and listed the way it would cost the average Joe.

I don't really think of CSG as an oddball since they're an established company that's just expanding into sportscards from comics. FCG definitely has the chance to be fly by night though.

Yes, I know it's a 6, but it'll work for me and some of the Golds from series 2 are very tough to find. I had not seen an Eck pop up in recent memory. It was evident from the auction pic that it wasn't gem mint but I couldn't figure out what was dropping it to a 6 - turns out there is a fairly significant bend in the top right corner. The big deal with this one is that it completes the 1994 Collector's Choice Gold Signature team set, finally. I think I only need two more A's parallels from 1994, a Pinnacle Artist's Proof and one of the Museum Collection Trade SPs.

Not baseball but I snagged a 90s refractor for less than the cost of shipping in a padded envelope from CA.

Now, I know the dude was short but did Topps have to imply that with how this was cut? What a waste of empty space!

Got the latest COMC shipment in, about 7 months worth of purchases...here are the highlights:


Start off with some nice Cansecos. I've been looking for the three Canseco Fan Favorites Refractors, 2003-2005, for a few years now and they rarely pop up. I still needed all three at the beginning of the year...I got the 2003 from eBay a little while back and grabbed this 2005 on COMC, so happy to have it finally in hand. I just recently found the 2004 on COMC as well. Down to needing one A's 2003-2005 Fan Favorites Refractor, hopefully I'll also find the missing one soon. The 1998 Finest Refractor up there is the legit "No Protector Refractor" with the etched Refractor back. Still need one from that set as well. The 1997 Gallery PPI and Donruss Gold Press Proof were the final cards in hand for those team sets.


Some 1997-2000 goodies. The McGwire Peter Max card was actually a recent arrival from eBay. The Clark/McGwire SI Extra Edition is 133/500 and completes the team set. Matt Stairs is from the elusive 1998 Stadium Club First Day Issue set. The Black Diamond Chavez is the Final Cut 006/100, need one more to complete that team set.


Mid-2000's shiny stuff. There's a 2003 E-X Essential Credentials Future Tejada 14/52, which was I believe the last A's Essential Credential I needed from that year. Then there's various Refractors and X-Fractors, the rarest being the 2005 Red X-Fractors /25.


More mid-2000's stuff, with some Mirror Golds and a 2006 Upper Deck Gold Frank Thomas 240/299. Still need a few of those for the team set.



Some fun GU. The big Jeff Weaver patch is for my Fresno State collection. The Tim Hudson patch is 14/50.


Some of my other favorites. The Chapman is 25/50, Eck is 25/50, Reddick is 25/25 (all these 25's are a coincidence), and both Gypsy Queen Wood cards are /5. The Griffey auto drops my 1988 Topps autograph set need list down to 30.


Some Gold Refractors...well the Barton is technically a Copper Refractor 23/50, they didn't do golds that year. The rest are all /50 except for the Tejada, which is 06/52. Cowgill and Barton are team set completers.


The obligatory pile of Topps Black/Pink/Camo/Independence Day/Vintage Stock parallels. The 2011 Black Dallas Braden completes that team set in hand.


And the rest of the stuff I thought was interesting enough to show. My printing plate buying has slowed in recent years but I will still pick them up if I see them really cheap. The Select Gold Cespedes is 10/25 and the Prizm Band of Brothers Gold card is 10/10.

I rarely get any Howie Kendrick cards anymore. Partially because I have a good deal of them, there aren't a ton left I need, but mostly because nobody bothers to list his cards (completely understandable.....there's no money in them).

Thanks...I have completed quite a few, I should make a post listing them all at the end of the year.

Here's a set I'm not close to completing, all the player/team collectors know how difficult this one is:


1999 Stadium Club First Day Issue Jason Giambi 156/200. Don't let the /200 fool you, these are seemingly as difficult to find as /50 or /25 cards from this era...even more difficult in some cases.

Some great stuff in today:


2014 Topps Chrome Red Refractor Yoenis Cespedes 05/25, leaves me one short of the team set. The Mulder 2004 Mirror White auto 021/100 was the last one I needed that was /100 or higher, I know I need one that is /25 but there are probably some that are /5 or something as well. The 2001 Fleer Platinum Parallel Johnny Damon was the last /201 I needed, still missing four SPs/21. And Kurt Suzuiki was the last 2007 Topps 52 Chrome Gold Refractor A's card I needed out of 5 total.


This pile of 2010 Topps Blacks/59 completes series 1 and 2, still need the Josh Donaldson RC out of the Update set.

And two huge pickups for my collection:

2003 Topps Black David Justice 50/52 and 2004 Topps Black Eric Chavez 09/53. Great cards but the most important thing is that these complete the 2003 and 2004 Topps Black A's team sets. I had already completed 2005 earlier this year, so that finishes the first three years of Topps Black parallels. I also have 2007 Topps Copper complete but am missing 3 cards from 2006 Topps Black, which is stopping me from having the first 5 years complete. Then I need 6 from 2008, go figure.
