Jobs and classes have had me involuntarily off baseball cards for a while but I've got some time tomorrow so I may come out. It'll feel like kind of an aimless trip since I don't have any sort of list together, but oh well. I'm a big Robbie Alomar fan but not feeling it at $99 for auto+inscription.
I wasted a lot of time on Blowout last year but the rare deals that were decent sold out instantly. I didn't care about most of the stuff.
I did end up picking up two retail boxes of 2010 National Chicle (I know ... no one likes that but me) on D&A that were on sale that whole weekend for $25 each.
Question for those who have "dug up" the Mantle ring: About how many digs had you done when you found it? I'm just wondering if you're the lucky 1:5000, do they make it pretty likely that you'll actually dig it up if you don't have a ton of codes, or do you still have to find one lucky square on...
I'm glad the voters nailed it with the Wieters pick. I didn't have much faith.
I'm also happy for Markakis even though I don't think it was his best year in the field. That being said, his negative UZR/150 doesn't tell the whole story. There's something messed up about the way the stat rates...
I definitely haven't been as active in collecting Markakis since he's had a couple mediocre years in a row. I still think he could be a 25-hr guy with an OPS in the high .800s but somewhere along the line he decided he'd rather be a slap hitter and his production has suffered.
Bought a couple Matt Wieters cards after looking up his stuff on Beckett Organize and seeing that he only has 232 different cards (although 97 of them are #'d to less than 10 and more than 70 are 1/1). He also only has 81 non-auto'd cards, only 20 MLBPA licensed cards (including autos), no 2011...
Wow I started going for the Markakis variations and then stopped. That page is making me feel pretty good about that decision, but if you can get them all it's an awesome collection.
I really thought the Tigers would get to the WS but Verlander just hasn't been as dominant as I expected. I'm sure the two rain delayed games didn't help matters...
Re: Contest for 1 slot in '11 Topps Finest Team Case Break
I remember thinking the '96 and '97 sets were really weird when they came out because of all the oddly-named subsets (Gamers, Prodigies, Intimidators, Franchises, Masters, Competitors, Warriors ... on and on forever), and some of them...
Tampa's new away jerseys look waayy too much like Toronto's from afar. I spent a good 30 seconds on Saturday wondering when the Leafs signed Garon and why they weren't playing Reimer, and then I saw Marty St. Louis and it all clicked.
Maybe I just need to wear my glasses when I watch hockey on...
Re: *My Entire Mike Green Collection* [Update 10/9]
Great collection, Terry. Coincidentally I'm wearing my Mike Green "Game Over" shirt right now.
I really love the Langway/Green artifacts cards. It's also kind of funny to see how many different goalies Green's been on cards with, and how none...
