MrMopar's New Dodgers Autograph Thread (and other interesting items on a slow mailday)

Saturday and todays mail Garvey photo with Fisk catching behind him, from an ASG. Green /10. I liked the look of the card, despite the logolessness (if that isn't a word, it should be!). Its really thick too, which I am not a fan of. No need in this case. Furcal /27

Show a tough card another player collector would covet, as they share space with your player.

This is a perfect example of what I had in mind. Clearly, this is a Thome card to most, but the Alomar collector was the victor!

Palmiero /25 Recollections Some local stuff. love those early shots of Seattle. It seems like it was forever ago, but that is only a little under 50 years ago. My how the waterfront has changed. For those unfamiliar, most of what you can see in this photo is adjacent to the Puget Sound just...

    Phillies Pick Up Thread

What I really liked seeing, and hopefully it wasn't because a camera was present, were the athletes seemingly having a good time signing and interacting with fans. Lots of big smiles and laughs. They were likely very paid handsomely for their time, but at least they showed up and were positive...

OK, took a chance on some new customs. I try to stick with the really good types (Banty/Sporting Life) these days due to the garbage i was ending up with before, but these were pretty nice. I did negotiate a better price for the 2 than ebay had listed, which also helped. I am cheap and try to...

I just can't get enough of these at the right price, especially whe they have the little AP paper they came with.

    Roberto Alomar Collector's Thread

I think one of the hardest things about collecting a player, team or even set is that once the issue becomes "old", everyone kind of forgets about it. When an issue is new, everyone is busting boxes and trying to sell what they pull out. Eventually that supply dries up and in most cases, dry...

Rollins /79. Willard Bill "Hawk" Hunter. He always seemed to sign twice, full name and shortened with nickname. He died in 2021. I will pick up dupes when they are cheap. I have plenty of his signature now, but he was a little tricky early on.

Murray /75. That makes /15, ?50 and /75. Probably done there. Turner /25 This one is unusual, as he is apparently already out of baseball, with a career 0-1 record (Dodgers). His is one autograph I am still needed for my Dodger collection too. As far as I know, he never got any regular...

I fell for it and bought another Leaf Sheehan. This is a 1/1 and was about $7.50, so why not. It's one of those pre-production proof 1/1s that comes with the business card cert that isn't tracked in their data base, but the sticker matches that of the one on the blank backed card. Another...

MrMopar's New Dodgers Autograph Thread (and other interesting items on a slow mailday)

A sign that I am nearing the end of my active collecting is the difficulty in landing items that I would have had no problem winning just 5 years back and at a much lesser price than most things now. It took me too long to land one of these and was afraid the initial batch would dry up...
