So I bought a raw 84 Tiffany Mattingly. It has the high gloss, so I know this isn’t a base version. My only issue is the card seems a little “blurry” compared to the regular 84 Topps. The stock and thickness feel right.

Did 84 have counterfeit issues? Or were they still figuring out technology given this was the first year these existed?

I don’t recall any of the Tiffany’s being blurry.

By the way, Tiffany’s I’ve had for sale for 25 years are suddenly hot commodities. Any idea why the increased interest?

The blurry photo felt a little odd. sounds like it’s a “reprint”

As for the surge, I think RC collectors are just trying to upgrade their 80s rookies. A Mattingly 84 Topps is pretty common, but the tiffany version is a big step up.

You wouldn’t happen to have a Mattingly would you?

Is it just me, or is counterfeiting going up these days? I have little to back this up other than what I see on message boards, but that's how it seems to me. Given the card market right now, and the proliferation of trimmed and otherwise altered cards for sale, I don't see why counterfeiters would NOT be ramping up.
