I know some people collect these. It seems that it is becoming more and more commonplace that people are not only selling them, but looking up the dates and highlighting significant events that happened at the games. That can be good and bad, if you are collecting certain stubs. Some events will fly under the radar, such as someone trying to collect every game of Cal Ripken's consecutive game streak. However, if you have the record breaking game, that will hold a great premium over any other random game, such as game 571.

I started collecting stubs with a focus a few years ago. I had a handful of significant games that someone just happened to highlight in early ebay days. When I finally sat down and compiled a list of the exact games I wanted, I began actively searching for them. It can be a fun, but also frustrating process. A lot of times, key details are not added, which can make specific dates hard to find. The date format differs (July 6, 1980 vs 7/6/80 or 07/06/1980) and sometimes the opponents are not provided. Often people will list larger lots and may or may not type out the dates/opponents/etc. A lot of times I find myself scanning photos of lots to see if I can spot a date I want.

That said, it's been fairly slow and my list is not all that large. I have made some headway in recent months here and there, but finding a specific date I want that isn't more expensive than I feel it is worth (that is another problem all together) can be tricky too. For example, someone has a ticket I need and they have listed it over and over for over $100! Now, I will share that the event is probably not significant to anyone else but me and they certainly are not advertising it, but somehow in their mind an early 70s Dodgers ticket stub should net them $100. Sorry, but that is just plain stupid! Another example was someone who was selling lots of tickets in 10-25 game blocks. I asked if he might sell me a handful of specific games out of the lots. It was 5-6 tickets out of maybe 100. I offered good money (compared to the price per ticket he had for a BIN - each lot had a BIN price) and he didn't want to do the extra work to rescan the lots. Seriously?! I get it, I am asking for special treatment, but it was taking 4-5 new pictures and editing a line or two out of an existing listing description, plus he would likely still be able to sell the lots for full price without the 1-2 tickets I had asked about, PLUS he was getting my $ on top. That is an example of someone NOT willing to help out a collector. Oh well, I move on and my search continues.

I decided to post my list here in hopes that maybe someone sees it and has some extra stubs they don't care about. The majority are Dodger and/or Padre stubs of course, but sometimes the hardest ones to find are when he was on the road. I have daily searches for Dodger and Padre stubs, but not for other teams. I am especially hopeful that someone from another city besides LA or SD might have some random ticket lots. If an opponent is not listed on those "away" tickets, I could easily miss it. I am going to be a little conservative here and delete the specific events so that I am not giving someone the specific opportunity to hold me hostage for one that they had no idea was "desirable". I am not saying it will happen, many collectors are great and like to help others, but there are those hostage takers that will exploit any opportunity to make an extra buck once they know they have what someone wants. I can tell you that each game has some significance to Steve Garvey. A few are major milestones left that I need, most are more mundane like a HR hit off a HOF pitcher, the first double he hit as a Padre, etc. Seriously, most of these stubs are worth no more than any other stub from that same team and year.

I can't seem to insert the spreadsheet as it is formatted, so there are 5 columns. Date, opponent, location, notes and Have (designated by an X). I will take duplicates in some case, which is why I have left even those I already have on the list. After the regular dated list, those are ASG and playoff tickets. BOLD are tickets I still need.

My biggest whale from the list is Game 6 of the 77 WS. That is the game Reggie Jackson hit 3 HRs and those are NEVER a bargain! The Tigers WS tickets are popular too, especially the clincher in 84.

When I started running out of reasonably prced cards to collect of my players, I started looking for ticket stubs from their first and last MLB games but I really don't want to drop more than $10-15. Got a few so far. But once people realize what the stub represents, up goes the price, even for relatively unknow players.

I get ticket stubs autographed occasionally, at the minor league park, if a player doesn't have a card yet. Mookie Betts didn't have a card yet and the ticket stub is the only autograph I got of him in Salem.

Yes, that is why I am hesitant to share my want list and certainly not going to announce why I want any specific games. Some are obvious, others not so much. As I said, there are some odd events that only someone like me would want anyway.

Nice. I don't aggressively go after AS roster guys the way I did a few years back, but I was once trying to get an autograph from everyone on an AS game roster. I would want Betts anyway, but now that he is a Dodger he has become a need instead of a want. I am going to wait it out though and see what happens. The Dodgers actually seem to be the kiss of death for a lot of players when it comes to autographs and pricing, at least non-prospects. It seems every single Dodger prospect is the next Ted Williams or Cy Young the way people buy them up.

I have a stub from Grady Sizemore's debut game, but that's it. My interest in a player extends to cards and that's pretty much it, no bobble-heads or other ephemera like that that won't fit in a top-loader. I used to save the stubs of all the games I went to, but as time's worn on they seem to get jettisoned if there was nothing significant about them.

Team collectors seem to be more into tickets as they are one of the best symbolic representations of a team and a key event in their history. I have heard of people who collect things like 1927 Yankee tickets, the whole season, which seems pretty awesome. Though how many teams like that are there? Doesn't really matter. Any season for any team might have special meaning for someone (1980 Phillies for me).

It is a sector of the hobby that might be getting ripe for investment, though, considering how few tickets are actually on paper anymore and considering people are willing to spend incredible sums on just about anything this year. I was at Ronald Acuna's second major league game where he hit his first homer and our tickets were in the MLB app. When he hit it, it did cross my mind to go to the box office and buy a couple cheap tickets but decided not to. I regret that now. Attendance for that Thursday noon Braves-Reds game was 11,919, and I'd guess at least half were e-tickets, if there were even that many people in the stadium. As years go by, how many stubs will have been thrown out? Of course, it has to catch on as something people actually want, but with the hobby being such an echo chamber it might just take a little bit to get it going.

Over the past year I have started to compile a list of stubs I might want, I've gotten a few, seen more that would fit in the collection. My biggest issue is how to store them, from different teams and years they're are many sizes.

Stubs are like newspapers. They are both on their way out unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you see it. As a collector of odd things sports related, any time they take something collectible, like a ticket stub, and replace it, I think it is a shame.

@bstanwood, I know what you mean. My stubs are all over the map, but a good portion of the older ones used to fit in toploaders.

I don't actively collect stubs, but I've got a few neat ones in my PC. Nothing crazy but fun conversation pieces:
- George Brett's last ever triple (attended)
- Ohtani's first ever triple (attended)
- 3-game series when Miggy locked up the Triple Crown in KC
- Royals 2014 & 2015 postseason full sheets (issued to season ticket holders)
- 2012 All-Star Game (attended)
- Merrifield's 2019 hit streak (attended both game 31 and the next...when it ended)

I have been trying to accumulate game tickets for Griffey's 630 HRs. I have 616 tix so far but the last 14 are painfully slow as most are away tickets. I have all the significant ones and have a couple of Minor League HR game tix as well as the 1995 Playoff HR game tix and the WBC HR game tix. I have also picked up all the tickets that have had his image on them as well as all of his All-Star Game and the HR Derby Tickets where he won. It's a nice change from the insane avalanche of Topps cards that are pumped out today.

Ticket stubs are solid evidence that I'm a pack rat and always have been. I somehow still have the Tiger Stadium stub from my first game I attended in the late 70s. I have one box of random tickets from sporting events/concerts attended. Separately I have my special tickets saved in sleeves/top loaders. Other than my 1st game, my favorites are Alan Trammell's last game at Tiger Stadium, Comerica Park 1st game, and Michigan's Rose Bowl win over Washington State.

I have no qualms about saying it, I would love to find a May 24, 1989 ticket stub for the Braves vs. Pirates, David Justice's debut. No luck in several decades of searching - it doesn't help that there were probably only 3,000 people there lol (official attendance was just under 6,000)

I save mine, although I've noticed the Ticketmaster stubs of the 2000s have begun to fade ink.

I have full tickets from Detroit's final series (@KC) in 2012 when Miguel Cabrera clinched his Triple Crown title. That was cool!

Found these ticket stubs from a game where the BigCat! Andres Galarraga hit a grand slam moon shot that landed in the upper deck At Pro Player Stadium. The distance the ball traveled was heavily debated with intial measurements at 573ft then retracted to 529. Feels like I found a needle in a haystack!
