I just received this message from EBAY. For those that get requests to cancel EBAY sales this should help.

Ebay seems to just be getting worse as time passes. I am not saying that is the fault of the site exclusively, but the quality of sellers has gotten much worse in my opinion. I am sure buyer quality has dropped too.

Just today I got a delivery that was packaged with absolutely no care. I won a SLU, an 8x10 and 6 (only got 5 so we'll see how that issue goes too) bronze Highland mint cards. OK, that is quite a combo of items to ship together, so you'd expect the seller to at least protect the SLU from the heavy bronze cards. NOPE. Everything was loose in the box! The bronze card cases, which are brittle to begin with, cracked with a bunch of small pieces of plastic littering the box. SLU was not expecting perfect, but it took a beating.

I seem to get about 1 bid cancellation a week or more now as a buyer. It's a regular thing. I get a notice that my bid has been cancelled and I of course always wonder why and every single time, the item has been ended early with all prior bids cancelled and no explanation from the seller as to why! Assume it is mostly sellers doing off-ebay deals after someone reaches out with interest, but have no idea. Unchecked shipping fees is another ridiculous trend. I saw a card i would have liked to bid on earlier this week. S/H cost? $16! Seller in Oklahoma. That is just outright abuse, even if sent priority! I sent a message to ask if that was possibly a mistake in the fee or if the shipping was actually $16. I got the oh so caring answer of "no". Moving on from a dipshart like that.

This change is probably a good one. i'd be curious to know how often winners are canceling a transaction though. I didn't think that was even possible for the buyer to do themselves, i thought maybe you could ask the seller to cancel, but they would have to agree to it, otherwise you were a non-payer. I could see rare instances where a cancellation might be warranted. Assuming the seller still has the option to cancel a deal for the buyer, this change should not be seen negatively by the buying community, other than maybe irresponsible bidders who overdue it and then pick and choose what they want to pay for.

Would love to see a return to the likes of early ebay days though. Don't we always pine for the better days of the past...Mostly auctions and not a glut of overpriced BIN museum pieces that will never sell, solid sellers for the most part that cared and took care of customers and had reasonable shipping fees and of course, responsible bidders who don't cause issues and pay for their wins promptly.

I rarely, if ever, run auctions. Most of my stuff I sell is BIN/BO but I am very happy about this change. It's just common sense that hey, I bid on this and won, it's mine now, so I need to pay. The way it should be. Over the last 20 years, Ebay had slowly taken so much away from the sellers, they are finally giving it back...slowly again over the last few years. Maybe they've finally lost enough sellers to Amazon/Facebook Groups/etc, that they're trying to get them back.
