Top 50ish Custom Cards I Created this Year!

So cool! Really enjoyed looking through them. Lots of creativity, and love how you work with the signatures/memorabilia to make a card that's truly designed for the piece.

Griffey Collector's Thread - Part Two..

That recalls 2007 Fleer Autographics; the checklist features both Griffey and Gomes, but neither card has been seen. See this thread about the set, as well as posts in this Griffey thread starting with #578. Probably both cases of Upper Deck issuing a checklist, then changing it prior to release.

2024 Hobby Goals: Year in Review

Hah, gotta love some creative accounting; make the stats work for you! I went through a phase of adding cards from baseball games (e.g., APBA, Triple Play Baseball) to my checklist, almost entirely just to try to make it to 99% of the non-1/1s. 40 diffractors! Did you buy someone out? 50/89...

2024 Hobby Goals: Year in Review

Sounds like a great 2024! But what am I missing here? You started with 106 non-1/1 needs; added 70; and now need about 80?

2024 Hobby Goals: Year in Review

I posted in the 2024 thread back in October, and progress is the same as it was then. Overall, a very successful year for the Gomes collection—more so than I would have thought likely. It's inspired me to up the goals for 2025 (posted here), and to work on tracking down some items that I lost...

    2025 Collecting Goals

Is the whale one card in particular, or there are several whales and you're hoping to get one of them?

    Jonny Gomes collectors' thread

A few months ago, I posted (posts 58 & 59) about a 2022 Japanese set I had just come across—I had the base and auto /61 at the time, and mentioned that others were incoming. These arrived yesterday. The new cards are shown below: The foil parallel (the signature actually looks silver in...

    November 2024 Arrivals

Nice! Love the partial inscriptions on the last two.

    2007 Fleer Autographics question

That's indeed my guess. Gomes had a number of autos in Fleer and Upper Deck sets in 2006 and 2007 (most of which were stickers rather than on card), and he never seemed to be difficult for companies to get ahold of to sign cards. It would thus seem likely that Upper Deck (as owner of the Fleer...

    2007 Fleer Autographics question

Two updates. First, the Jason Lane card has been seen (picture on TCDB). Second, Lance Cormier is added to the ranks of those not on the checklist, for with a printing plate seen (on COMC).

    Jonny Gomes collectors' thread

Make that three 1/1s in two months—something probably not seen since around 2015, the last year Gomes was consistently featured in sets (and, not coincidentally, his last year in MLB). This is the yellow printing plate from 2007 Upper Deck; it joins the black in my collection. For 2007, it...

    Jonny Gomes collectors' thread

In September, I posted about picking up a 1/1—a fairly rare event these days, probably around one a year. Barely a month later, another popped up. It's the magenta plate from 2009 Topps Updates & Highlights. I already had the cyan and yellow, also shown below; now I'm missing just the black...

    2002–03 Just Minors executive proofs?

As a heads up, COMC is (with some nudging by me) now listing these as executive proofs. If anyone else has players in these sets, this might be your only opportunity to get them—as said above, I didn't know they existed until they were listed.

    Jonny Gomes collectors' thread

From the annals of the not-terribly-recently acquired, but only-just-now scanned, arrives the 2014 Topps Orange. These were placed in factory sets, and are numbered /199, but this was stupidly hard to find. Jeff picked one up early on, but I couldn't find one until 2022, when it appeared on...

A huge surprise in the mail today

Very cool! Nice gesture; glad to hear it arrived at time when it sounds like you could use the lift, too. Got any pics?

Last game-used pickup for the time being. This is a 2005–07 Max bat—likely from 2007, which is when the other JG31s models seem to be from. Lots of use on it; a sliver at the end of the barrel is chipped off, and fastened with a small nail.

Upgraded the above with a blue signature. Not an easy card to find with a contemporaneous signature—I have a lot copies of most of the major issues (e.g., Bowman and Topps 206), but only a few of his minor-league issues. Meanwhile, here are two parallels that I've had for a while but only...

    2024 Hobby goals

I didn't officially post goals for 2024, but they would have been the same as in 2023 (and the previous few years): One non-1/1 off the needs list Nope. (Although I did add six cards to the non-1/1 needs list, all from 2022, then obtain five of them.) With only nine or so non-1/1s left...

    Forgotten Tough Parallels

I was very, very glad to find it. There are certain cards that you regularly see on player collectors' needs lists from that era, and that's one of them. Looks like Darin Erstad is in the set—any other of your guys? Are you still looking for it?

    Jonny Gomes collectors' thread

Like the two above, this jersey was picked up over the last few months. This one is from 2003 or 2004, the two years when Gomes wore #60 for the (then) Devil Rays; he changed to #31 in 2005. He played in a limited number of games both years, 2003 mostly on the road and 2004 all at home, so I...

    Forgotten Tough Parallels

Tough card—400 cards in the set, and COMC lists only 22 of them in current/sold listings. I was very happy to find mine; sometime later, I also found a second. When something has a low serial number (or at least one that is easy to spot, to banjar's point about the 2000 Pacific Crown...

    Jonny Gomes collectors' thread

Having hit the BIN and gotten around to asking some questions, it looks like the set was released in February 2023. There are a number listed on Japanese sites; presumably the reason the ones on eBay all seem to come from one seller is that he's the only person marketing them there. There also...

    Jonny Gomes collectors' thread

Gomes has a few Japanese cards from his brief stint with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2016. Curiously, however, I didn't discover these cards, which are from 2022, until very recently. I bought of the base cards earlier this year, then Mudflap found one of the autos on eBay with a BIN...

    2002–03 Just Minors executive proofs?

Looking at his cards again, I think some others are also slightly different. The 2002 Just Minors Justifiable black /50, and the 2002 Just Minors Just Prospects gold /500, also appeared to be numbered x/50 and x/500, respectively. It's harder to tell, because on those cards the serial numbers...
