I talked to Progressive about it, and they essentially said they don't really cover collectibles. They gave me a company to check with, but I can't remember the name at the moment.
"The Ripken that sold for $1500.00 was listed for 1 hour and they were contacted with a $1500.00 offer which they excepted." That's not true, the Ripken was listed for at least a couple of weeks before it was picked up.
I looked back through my old messages, looks like you had the team checklist card, not his regular card. Yeah I wouldn't pay $75 for that, but I would for his regular card. At the time I really didn't know the value of these so I offered $15, you never replied back with a counter offer or...
I've got the purple and green Ripken, will probably never be able to own a red with how prices have skyrocketed. I think the purples look the best though.
Was probably less than a year ago, I'll have to check my spreadsheet at home to see if I have the actual price and date. It was less than $2k if I remember right.
I love the 80's cards! Lots of great regional and oddball issues! And discs! Who doesn't love discs? It could be argued that there's quite a bit of complete garbage issued these days as well, but now it's issued by major manufacturers. But yeah, the fakes suck :D
Another thing to think about is 1/1 cards that have been destroyed by whatever means or lost in the mail.
*edit* Looks like you already mentioned that in your next post :p
