I've experienced COMC as a buyer, flipper, and seller, and I absolutely love the site. The site is great for lower end autos and numbered cards, and I think the fee structure is fairly priced. The fees are in place to cover their overhead costs, and I'd imagine what are not insignificant costs...
My cards came in today, and I'm having a blast going through everything. Lots of lower end parallels that I need to finish off team sets. The '97 Score Hobby Reserve boxes we broke also appeared to include both HR prefix and lacking prefix version of the base cards (it seemed to be about a...
Ouch, sorry man. Those 02 Fleer Minis are tough. I still haven't seen a single copy of the Jack Wilson from the set, or any of the Pirates for that matter.
Thanks for all the hard work, Andrew. Can't wait to dig through the cards and see what holes I was able to fill. I had stopped collecting in 1998-99, so my base needs are pretty heavy.
I remember Ryan saying he didn't want to do another 90's break until next year, but I wonder what new...
Agreed. I thought the product would be pretty nice to buy singles, but at the price point they were releasing at I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. I imagine UD has to do something with their MLBPA license soon, right? They've had the license since March, and have yet to release a...
The Posey card looks sharp. I don't know why they haven't revitalized Studio. It seems like the set would be a perfect fit for the logo restrictions. I think this is the first Panini release where the base card didn't look over-designed, which is a nice step forward as well.
Yep, the 062/6200 code difference is the easiest way to distinguish from recent years. But when dealing with team issued items, there really isn't really much of a market compared to actual game worn/used items.
Some recent additions. When possible, I've started adding signed Pirate-affiliated minor league cards if a guy doesn't have any cards/photos in a Pirate uniform.
Watching the game as a Pirates fan was tough, but Hamilton was fun to watch. He really had the ability to change the game with his speed. I would have loved to see him take a shot at swiping third, but I believe there were two outs every time he made it to second base.
That Tek box was amazing. I think I hit a Ramirez and a Kendal Diffractor, which pretty much makes the break for me. I'm glad some of the higher dollar slots got some nice hits - hopefully that will allow us to do some more of these breaks in the future. I can't believe we're not even half...
If I'm buying lower end cards, I usually assume they're coming in a PWE. I've sent about two thousand TTM requests with no toploader or pennysleeve, and there have only been maybe a half dozen that have come back with damage from the sorting machines. I'd prefer a bubble mailer, but as long as...
My base set came in today. I'll be keeping the Tavon Austin and Geno Smith for my pc, but at less than $2/card, I'd imagine it shouldn't be too hard to turn a profit. The cards really look sharp in person, though I would have liked to see the base sets numbered.
I really like the look of the inserts, and think they work even without logos. The base cards...not so much. Panini really needs to stop with these overdesigned base cards.
Yep, the stickers are affixed by MLB. Even then, they can be misleading. I've seen quite a few jerseys certified as game worn when in reality the player never actually wore that jersey while playing, but rather sitting in the bench/bullpen and never seeing game action.
I liked watching Ohlendorf pitch with the Bucs, though things didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. I'm in the middle of a move right now, but I know I have some extras of his cards boxed up somewhere. Whenever I come across them, they're yours. Welcome to the board!
Wow, amazing pickups. I think you outbid me on a few of those Parkers. That's a shame that they not only put the Stargell cut in upside down on the triple auto booklet, but also managed to cut off his first name.
It looks like they have added some sort of price tracker. If you log in and look under the buyer menu, there is a COMC IQ Test. From there, they explain the new sales feature, and you can earn "history points" to look at sales history for a card via a captcha. The only downside appears to be...
I remember somebody calculated the print run on the Gold Samples years ago, and I believe they came up with roughly 25-30 per card. The gold cards were 1:10 magazines, so somewhere in the 200 range give or take a little depending on the number of cards in each month's set. The wildcard is how...
You have to realize that a large segment of the collectors going to high end signings are just that - collectors - and with deep pockets at that. I've met quite a few guys who will drop $5-10k at Chantilly on Steelers legends, and pretty much only collect signed Steelers memorabilia, and it may...
Agreed. The damage on the original card had all the markings of pack searching, so I think you came out well ahead. With that said, if you were concerned solely with sale value, you might have been better off selling the damaged card. Archives set builders would would likely have still netted...
