That's one of my favorite Piratefest experiences. I was able to get Maz on Friday when it was season ticket holders only. When the doors opened Saturday, I headed to the MVP section while everybody else was trying to get Maz in the main auto area. I was in the MVP section completely alone...
Never underestimate the ocd of signed set collectors. I've heard stories of guys driving a couple hours to go drive to some phone book listing of ex-player in hopes of getting a tough signer to sign a card they need for their set.
With that said, the general consensus from the 87 collectors...
I actually was going to ask for an inscription on the 87 Topps. But I was the second to last person in line, and everyone looked like they just wanted to get out of there and back on the bus, so I didn't want to push my luck. I've never seen a turnout get that crazy for a free signing. Then...
I went to the Reds Caravan Lima, OH stop last night. It was an absolute zoo - I got there an hour before the event started, and just barely got through the two hour autograph session. After about 20 mins, Phillips got up from the table and started signing down the line to try to get as many...
Great to see this thread still going. Big thank you to mansgame for the Traynor that arrived the other day. I could use the Meek gu if it's still unclaimed.
Nice Alvarez's! His prices have been too high for me to pick much, but I was able to snag his Razor Gold and Blue Metal autos at the beginning of last season when he was off to a slow start.
There has been a significant change in both the number of new cards being listed, and the overall pricing. COMC had been great for finding great prices on low end autos, parallels, etc. I've noticed over the last few months a couple of the bigger sellers who I most frequently bought from had...
I just checked the shipping details on a package I have been waiting on, and realized I didn't include my apartment number in the shipping address :benson: Does anybody have any idea where the package would end up? Will it be delivered to the main office of the apartment complex? Returned to...
Allie was a high ceiling/low floor type of player from day one. It's way too early to write him off, but on the same hand it wouldn't shock me to any degree if he never makes it beyond A-ball. regardless of how the pick turns out, this was the exact type of talent the Pirates needed to be...
While there is already a per-card shipping fee, this is definitely a significant change. At the current shipping rates, it is only $.15/card for bulk shipping, or $.20/card for the basic shipping level, plus the shipping fee. However, the first ten cards are not currently subject to the...
I have always assumed there are some older Pirates collectors with deep pockets but know very little about the Pirates system as a whole. This pattern of scrub Pirate prices spiking after 2-3 decent games (not extended stretches of good play that would actually explain price spikes). The same...
I'm a bit late to the party, but I figured this thread could use a few more Pirates. :D
edit: Sorry, not sure why the pictures are showing up so small. I'm still figuring out the new board.
Michael, great to see you're still around. I was worried we had lost most of the Pirate guys on here.
Jim, love the Tribute autos, but I hate that the sticker overlaps with the card. BTW, if you're looking for a Jack Wilson on-card auto, your only options are his '01 Donruss Elite auto /100...
The girlfriend and I are going to be driving from Pittsburgh to Lima, Ohio for a job interview she has out there, and was wondering if there is anything anyone would recommend seeing while out there (card related or otherwise). We're going to be following Route 30 most of the way, but may stop...
Pittsburgh has a lot of "old school" guys who think cards should still for the same prices they did in 1998. I had one guy quote me a price of $30 on a Nate McLouth ref auto because he said it booked at $100. The card was selling for $4-5 dlvd on ebay at the time.
Different mall, but probably mostly the same dealers. It's usually the same guys set up at all the mall shows in the area. To the OP, how did you find out about the show? I didn't see it listed on the Beckett show calendar.
Without context, I'll reserve judgment on the McCutchen quote. But it is worth noting that the team absolutely fell apart after the AS break last year, and by the end of the season you could tell any players who weren't fighting to impress the front office had largely check out by late...
Nice to see some Pirates stuff on the board again! I love the '61's, but prefer the '60 set. Sounds like a good enough excuse to show them off, right? :benson:
