    2025 year end

So here's what I wrote for 2025: "My goals for this year are simple as usual. 1) More Alomar pickups. And this time I am targeting one white whale. 2) More Parker pickups. This is turning out to be really fun. But as I keep building that PC, the ones I need will become more rare and...

Yah. I'd never seen one until recently, when two appeared on ebay. Gouger #1 wants $1000, and Gouger #2 wanted $600 (although that listing disappeared). This one on COMC cost me $135, which I think is high but not outrageous, considering the scarcity and the fact that they were only distributed...

Greetings from a galaxy far far away. I just completed a pretty difficult run, the Topps Kanebo series. In case you didn't know these were released in Japan in 2003 in two series. The first series was designed like 2002 Topps, and came with silver and black parallels. Silver is tough, black is...

Expect an influx of website traffic

I hate to say it, but I agree. Which sucks, because I like this board. It's the only form of social media I partake in. Would love to see some Beckett refugees join up.

New arrival - the 2003 Donruss Team Heroes Stat Line /11. Normally the Stat Line series was limited to the base Donruss issue, but for some reason they included one in this set. But they didn't do the usual Career and Season Stat Line versions, just one Stat Line. This one is numbered to 11, for...

You know, it sure feels good when you complete a run, doesn't it? It's one of my favorite things about collecting cards. I got this one done the other day, 2005 Leaf. There were two cards in this series, the base card and one from a subset called "Passing Through Time", where the back of the...

Anyone know what this is ?

Sheesh. I can't say I'm in favor of these kinds of cards. And Ebay is just flooded with them right now. Yuck!

why baseball players are the coolest

Well you guys, it seems it was a fake. This politifact article pretty much settled it for me. https://staging.politifact.com/factchecks/2011/may/24/evan-longoria/rays-3b-evan-longorias-spectacular-barehanded-catc/ It pointed out somethings that, as a baseball fan, I should have realized. Oh...

why baseball players are the coolest

I'm not sure. Was it? I've watched it many times, and it almost seems too slick to be true. But it also doesn't jump out at me as obviously faked.

Another one. Joe Mauer casually backhanding a carom off the backstop. Does it every day.

why baseball players are the coolest

This is worth 30 seconds of your time. Evan Longoria spears an errant foul ball headed straight for a reporter's head, bare handed, and hardly reacts. Cool as a cucumber.

    October 2025 New Arrivals

Hey, that's a nice card. There's so much mythology around Josh Gibson, I wonder how good he really was. Was he really the black Babe Ruth? I'm a guy who thinks the Babe was the best ever. And I think Mays and Bonds are very close seconds. And I think that Ohtani is only starting to put his...

When you loose big selling at auction

Wow. What a drop off. For what it's worth, my view is that it's not about scarcity, not previous sales value, or any objective measure. It's all about human psychology, and nothing more. But that said, damn. What a rare and awesome card.

Another nice pickup, from fellow Alomar collector Hector, who is selling off his incredible collection. The 1999 UD Textbook Excellence Quadruple /10. And this one from some rando seller in Texas, the 1998 Topps Stars Gold Rainbow /99. I don't really dig this set, or this parallel, and the...

Yeah, it's an outlier. I always assumed it was some king (er I mean "kind", no kings today :-)) of homage to a vintage gold back issue. But searching TCDB for gold back didn't yield much, so I guess Fleer just had an excess of gold ink to get rid of that year...

Oh Super Sweet 90's Inserts.... #3

Not really an insert, but still super sweet. The 1997 Score Team Set Platinum. Tougher to find than I thought. A few years ago I learned there were two variations of this card, with the stripes going either left or right. I finally got the left one today.
