I dunno. Most mass produced RCs are selling for less than half they were going for during the peak. So you don't need to pay anywhere near $50 for a Topps Shaq RC anymore. Even RCs of current stars like Durant & Doncic have softened. Hoops and Donruss Doncic RCs for example were going over $100...
If you'd ask pre covid, I'd say around $5,000. Now it's more like $10-15K and most of the value is from basketball despite being around 20% of my collection. Though the prices are starting to come down some. I guess people are wising up after buying paper Hoops and Donruss RCs of Luka Doncic for...
Even with their discount prices, I found the cards I was interested to still be way above EBAY. So that was some sale. I ended up buying a mere 5 cards and none were baseball. I guess nobody likes rare Keyshawn Johnson inserts. So those were obtainable at least.
That's way better than my Walmart. Last I checked a couple weeks ago, they had a 2021 Topps Set, a handful of 2021 Topps Chrome WWE blasters, and some college basketball junk. That's it.
This is currently my favorite product and am just glad it finally came out this year. So let's get right into the highlights...
Main RCs: I don't even know who they are but I pulled Adell, Hayes, and Kelenic among others.
1963 Topps Peel Offs: F. Tatis Jr, J. Kelenic, A. Bohm, R. Acuna Jr, A...
I bought a 98 Damion Easley a few years ago just to see what they looked like. If I ever unload it, you'll be the first to know. I'm bummed they never did the green/red PMGs for baseball.
So I found these at Walgreens of all places. I just got my vaccine and behold there were 4 boxes of this at the checkout. Since I haven't found any retail since like forever, I decided to get a couple.
RCs: 6 total
Regular Refractor: R. Odor, A. Meadows, L. Gurriel, J. Flaherty
Prism Refractor...
Nah, I'd go back to 1997 and bust open cases of Fleer & Ultra to pull rookies of that David Arias guy. And keep some of those cool looking inserts, too.
Most of the stupidity is with current unopened product and especially basketball and football. I remember being able to get $5-10 worth of cards out of $20 blasters, and now you will get the same $5-10 worth of cards out of $60 blasters.
I'm a fan of those retro styled products and Heritage is the only product I've busted all year. I've been looking forward for a budget friendly Big League brand and especially Archives but at this rate the season will be over before these are released.
I just stumbled across this depressing video and the last time I visited a card shop was pre covid. I don't know if this the norm now or not. If it is, at least I know where all the retail product ends up.
Apparently some group breaker pulled a 2011 Topps Update Mike Trout black parallel from a pack and was oblivious to what he had. Just shows the current state of this hobby.
1983-85 Donruss, Fleer, Topps sets (OK, I didn't build these sets, but bought them complete)
I also like those small food issue auto sets from the 90s. I did build these one at a time.
1995 Jimmy Dean (J.Hunter, A.Kaline, B.Williams)
1997 Jimmy Dean (Y.Berra, B.Robinson)
1995 Tombstone Pizza...
I doubt it's THAT rare considering I own one. I bought a set around 5 years ago for $30 solely for this card. There's a few Sosas from the set currently on ebay. That said, I always was curious about the print run. I'm guessing between 20k and 50k which is still tough for that era. There's an...
