I'm not a hockey guy, so I'm hoping someone has done/will do the research for me.
With Hobby boxes hitting $70+ and containing 6 YG's and 3 Retail blasters costing $60+ (with 6 YG's) is RETAIL the way to go.
What are the other "HIT" differences between Hobby and Retail that I would miss with...
All good points. And TRUST me, I spend A LOT of money on the very reputable Big SAFE dealers. I just wanted a couple of boxes of Bowman Sterling and saw the big price differences ($50 per box). I couldn't pass up. I'm awaiting arrival, hopefully it goes smoothly AND a get some big hits.
YES. For example, DVD's have a maximum shipping/handling charge of $3.00. The system won't let you charge more unless you specifically go into the shipping calculator and designate that you have a bigger than normal DVD (like a box set).
Noticed that all the major card dealers (Blowout, D&A, Atlanta, etc...) are asking for $285 - $300 per box. Yet, I'm winning boxes on eBay for under $250 (+ add eBay bucks/Ebates) and I'm getting boxes dlvd at $240 or less.
I don't ever remember such a big discrepancy between eBay and Online...
So far it looks like Autos are falling a little better than 1 per two case break (24 packs). Not sure what to expect $$$ wise from a complete base set, but at $8 per pack or $100 per case. It's hard to see any justification for just buying wrappers in hopes of hitting an auto worth $100-$200...
Well, I just received a crappy Chance Ruffin as my missing hit replacement from Topps...I'd say it is a toss-up...
It really is a rip-off if you don't get a hit (the chance for any prospect and even color auto, reduced to crappy base auto replacement)
Based on other non-auto 1 or 1 hits on eBay for this product. Looks like it may find its way to around $70 or so...
Not a killing, but should come close to paying for the box. Maybe they will send me a Taylor Hall Auto as my missing hit...NOT!!!!!
Opened my first box of Hockey cards ever. 2010-11 Panini Certified Hockey.
Good news:
An Auto of Mike Richards #'d /25
A 1 of 1 Black Parallel Michael Leighton Masked Marvels :D
Bad News:
The Autograph was my only "HIT" in the box, (supposed to get 1 Auto, 2 Memorablilia and 1 more hit...
Of course, the price of a box will be influenced strongly by how some of the prospect autograph players play during the next 12 months. If Sano, Sanchez, Shelby Miller etc...start exploding during the minor league season or 1 or 2 players get called up in July, these boxes could easily go up...
Just checking Platinum prices on eBay. 1st 3 Posey's to sell: $29, $30, $26. Now around $8. 1st 2 Strasburg's: $26, $25, now around $4.
They both have steadily gone down since 9/2.
You have a damn good reason to be mad if you are waiting for your hobby boxes to arrive 26 days from now
Sorry to hear about your mix-up, but I do want to say that my 6 box black Friday order with Orange County came in as ordered and being on the West Coast i received them on Wednesday which was really nice. My ground orders from Dave/Adam and Blowout aren't due until Monday.
This post inspired me!!!
Just went on Baseball Card Exchange (beat the midnight deadline) and ordered the following:
1) 1990-1991 Upper Deck Hockey Box
2) 1991-1992 Score Hockey (high and low) (looking for the Orr Auto) ($3.60 per box)
3) 1992 Donruss Baseball(high) (Ripken Auto)
4) 1992 Score...
Picked up 2 of those Upper Deck Draft Edition 2009 football as well, right before they sold out.
My weekend tally:
1 Box at Blowout
3 Boxes at Atlanta
4 Boxes from D&A
6 boxes at Orange County (surprisingly, my best deals, even with the 9% California sales taxes) Would have been huge without...
Received my 3 packs today. 3 packs, 3 different envelopes (even though I mailed the wrappers together in one package), 3 EXACTLY identical Refractor cards (Stanton, Santana and Gehrig) in each pack. Posted on eBay immediately!!!!
First Posey's got $25+ and one ending in about 10 minutes is...
Just looked it up. Tyler Thigpen 2007 SP Authentic Auto/999. $8 before Sunday...last two have sold for $25+. I guess tonight's game could change that as well.
