Mac,

I've compared diffractor collections with just about every player collector with large diffractor collections. For example, Joe, onionring9 and I both have over 30 McGwire diffractors each, but almost 100% correlation in what we have. We also both needed only patterns 86 and 89 from the 30-card '98 Tek McGwire pre-production set. Same kind of correlation with Bonds, Justice, Grace, and Griffey collections. Chris Kurdelski had 34 Griffey diffractors; I have 43 Griffey diffractors. He only has 9 that I don't have. I need more than 60% of the diffractor patterns, but seemingly 80% or more of everything that shows up on-line is a duplicate for me. Not sure of the explanation. May well be uneven print distribution.

Rich

Rich - I'm curious how my Griffey Diffractors match up with what you've got. I only have six, but they are 20, 21, 52, 63, 68, and 84.

I took a gamble on the Four 98 Teks on Sportlots. Figured since I needed 21, the odds were fair to get at least one? Right?
No. All four were doubles.
Now I am up to 15 1998 Tek Gwynn doubles...

While I would like to trade for all your the pattern# 1 diffractors other than the ones with x below I have no dupe patterns to trade
1x,21,30,32,40,41x,43,45,47,53x,58x,59,61,67,75x,76,82,83,84,86x The x means I have one of those too

Before I lost interest in chasing the diffractors I realized I had an disproportionate number (16) of pattern# 1 Diffractors, ergo the misguided thought I would one day chase after a one 90 card set of Pattern# 1 s diffractors. For me that's a lost cause and one I will not pursue. I will, however, trade any new one I get that just happens to be a dupe for me.

Amazing Richard that you have over 1/3rd of the diffractors

On a side note a dealer friend of mine here in Houston told me some guy in New York bought a 5000 count box of 1998 TEKs sometime this year from a friend of his for I believe $ 3800.

Are any of your Gwynn 98 TEK doubles a pattern# 23 or a pattern# 1

What are you down to in your Gwynn chase?

I had a similar situation. I bought the three Sandy Alomars with 28 patterns needed. All three were doubles.

What are the Sandy Alomars patterns you are missing? One of your guys should put together and keep updated a one line summary by player of the patterns of individual player that Collectors on this boards still need for their 90 card player sets. It would make it easy for guys like me who sometimes go to shows in Houston and pick up cards to help set builder collectors out. It would be much easier if there was a regularly updated one page summary available as I stopped picking up cards for collectors to help them out as I would buy them at a show only to find out they had forgotten to update their lists

PS My only Griffey Diffractor is a pattern# 12 in the only Diffractor set (all 90 players) I was able to complete. From a list Richard gave me a while I ago I believe he has that one already

Are you suggesting I maintain these lists on the first post of this thread? I'm not opposed, just clarifying.

What's a fair way to weed out the jokers?

What does that mean Weed out the jokers? If anyone here thinks there is someone on this site who tries to block them from getting their favorite players well thats disappointing that people would do that. Those guys who fear that just dont have to make their list public but I would think if collectors really want others to help them by making them know specifically what they are missing without having to ask it would seem to be the way to go

My list is Pattern # 1 Want List (Set # 2) ... 3,4,6,7,8,11,14,16,17,18,22,23,26,29,30,31,34,35,36,37,60,61,62,64,65,67,71,72,84,87,90

Feel like I've asked you this previously but what is the pattern of the Belle diffractor you have in that set?

I think that could work but not sure about your last part. I'd echo Toga when he says that if you don't want it public, don't share it or have it posted there I guess.

Belle diffractors

Neither is available for sale or trade but the Albert Belle patterns I have in my Diffractor sets are # 12 and # 56

I know they're not available for outright sale but would you trade either for another Albert Belle Diffractor pattern #15 ? It would be an even swap for your sets keeping the Belle Diffractor and I would sweeten the deal if you would be willing to do it for me. It'd help me obviously pick up one more for my PC and you'd keep your sets in tact.

If I find a dupe of either pattern I will trade it to you but not trading diffractors that are not dupes to me. If you were close to finishing a 90 card diffractor set I would do it. I traded a 98 TEK out of my master set when I had about 25 to go to finish all 8100 to help a collector out finish his base 0P'Neill set and it took me almost a year to find a replacement so I dont do that anymore .

Okay, no problem, I guess I'm miss understanding what you have, etc. I thought you had two diffractor sets of the 90s players and the pattern of each card didn't matter... therefore I was just saying I'd swap you Belle diffractors (throwing something in so sweeten it for you) to give me +1 in my PC and it'd still keep your 90 card set in tact. I think what I'm reading is you are going for the full diffractor master set and don't want to move any of the cards, even if it's a Belle for a Belle...
