Very excited to have received this stack of 98 Teks just after the New Year. After 9 years, these final 144 cards represent completion of the entire 8100 card set. This was a fun project for my son and I that started with him in his first year in high school and ended with him in his first job out of college. To say we were beyond excited is an understatement!IMG_9287.jpeg

I thought I knew all the guys who were chasing or had completed the 98 Topps TEK 8100 card run. Are you Don Apland? Since Richard Roth recently passed someone named Matthew Ryan bought rinkrats entire collection including 4200+ diffractors. I finished my 8100 card Master set back in 2004 making many trades with Richard . There as another guy, Mark T in Montana or North Dakota who was about a couple hundred short 10 years ago but I lost track of him. Another guy in the Baltimore area said he did all 8100. I still pick up pattern # 1s and Same card #/ pattern# 1998 TEks whenever I can find any and have about 15 cards I'd like to improve the condition of since my Master set is pretty close to mint with no tiny black dots, no scratches, no Water marks, no peeling along the edges of the silver oval on back and no misalignment of the card#/pattern# within that silver oval that was prevalent in 1998 TEKs. I'm also looking for a card # 80-Mike Mussina pattern # 35 to finish a player/uniform # set and a Clemens 1 pat# 21 to finish a Same card #/ pattern# 1998 TEK set separate from Master set if you have any duplicate 1998 TEK available. I was only able to complete one 90 card diffractor set and have two other partials with 14 and 32 cards to go but the prices went crazy on ebay the past 10 years and I stopped bidding on them. In any case congrats on joining the 8100 1998 Topps TEK club. Carl T in Houston aka togaman. I never knew Richard Roth was an attorney and lived in Springfield, Mass where I lived a few years as an early teen around 1967-69.

So here we go....

ebay.com/itm/145592848011

If you buy all 29 cards it'll run you a clean $86 a piece. Because they're unicorns! See the graphic?

For the record, I've been collecting Alomar cards a long, long time and I've never seen a 98 tek diffractor sell for more than $50.

He’s asking $75/ea outside of eBay for him. I know he’s made tons of sales of other players. I got the Kerry Woods a couple weeks ago

I am aware of his desired price outside of ebay. Again, I've never seen a single 98 diffractor sell at auction for more than $50.
It’s a fair argument that you don’t see the price he’s asking for as a “fair” amount. Maybe he’s going to bring it down to a range that would suit you after a while. I think the chase for ‘98 TEK cards is pretty daunting. I would just be patient and see how things play out

It was the same for me with Erstad. Most went $10-15 but honestly, you're never going to be able to get this many at one time. I even bought all the cards I had doubles of. I know I can trade/sell them. I bit the bullet and bought everything. I'd been adding maybe 1 or 2 a YEAR and to get around 50 at once + nearly finish my 2 base sets... I couldn't pass it up.

Hi everybody. As my username suggests, I collect Mike Mussina sport cards. I had the fortunate pleasure of trading with rinkrat (Richard) a couple of years ago and he gave me the diffractor patterns I did not have, and I traded him extras in return. I learned about his passing from Matthew Ryan when I reached out to him after seeing his post of mussina diffractors on ebay.

Needless to say, those diffractors have made a full circle now, after I bought them from Matthew. They are all duplicates for me, but at least I have trade bait.

I have 50/89 of the Mussina diffractors. And now I have 39 extra Mussina diffractors. Would anyone here be willing to let me know what Mussina diffractor patterns they have, and if I could trade my extras to you, so that I could fill out my set, I'd be most appreciative!

I also need a regular Mussina Tek pattern #3 to finish the regular set.

Thanks, and hope you guys can help make further dent in my 50/89 Diffractor set.

-barry

PS I remember Richard telling me a number the tek collectors had determined how many diffractors of a such player/pattern exists? Does anyone recall this? thanks.

Nobody knows for sure but best guess is around 10 of each specific diffractor pattern. While I completed all 8100 cards back in 2004 I was only able to finish one 90 card diffractor set and have two partials sets with 14 and 32 cards to go to complete two more 90 card diffractor sets. I never really actively chased after the diffractors. I have only have one Mussina diffractor in my one completed Diffractor set. I am looking for a 1998 Topps TEK Mussina base 80 pattern# 35 to complete a 90 card Player Uniform # set separate from completed Master set..Any chance you have one for sale?

The only 1998 Topps TEK Mussina Diffractor I have in my one completed 90 card Diffractor set is Pattern # 1 but it is not for sale or trade as its not a dupe and I am very slowly working on a Pattern# 1 Diffractor set (21/90 Pattern# 1 Diffractors so far)
