Very sad. He was quite the utility guy for the Reds. Here is my only card I have of him in my Reds collection.

From a teammate:

One thing I remember about Ryan Freel is that he had an imaginary friend (Farnie?) he would carry on conversations with his friend

Left a wife and daughter behind

Sad that my first thought was at least he didn't take anyone with him

Freel was a screwed up guy. Besides his mental issues, he was arrested twice for drunk driving.
I feel terrible for his wife and child.

While I do understand both sides of the argument, at the end of the day Ryan Freel is still a human, and is still dead. No one on this board (including myself) knows what he was going through in order to influence this tragic decision. To call him a "selfish motherXXXXer" after such an event, in my opinion is low. However that is simply my opinion.

Suicide is clearly a horrible option. Only someone suffering from serious mental illness/depression would ever resort to such a thing. Very sad. I'll say a prayer for him and his family.

The morality of what he did is largely a cultural and religious issue, the kind of topic often discussed on the general discussion board here.
