Harper only has only 266 at bats because he was hurt.
So based on a complete 600 at bat season, he'd be averaging around 85 rbi. That's not that unusual for a player who bats lead off sometimes, like tonight, on a team with a dismal offense.
Kirk Gibson won the NL MVP in 1988 with 25 homers and 76 rbi.

He has only started batting lead off like the past week though right? I don't keep up with the Nats but check box score on occasion

As bad as their bats have been he's lucky it's not 17 hr 17 RBI
Wouldnt be wild at all. Like it has been mentioned, he has missed a bunch of games on the DL, hitting near the top of the order on a lackluster offense doesn't help.
Still not bad for a 20 year old.

A reasonable ratio of RBI:HR is 2.5 for a power hitter, so he's a little below that, but it's also highly impacted by a player's particular situation. His Baserunner Scored is 13% this year, actually higher than last year's 12% (the MLB average is 14%). Hard to knock them in when they're in the dugout.

The cardinals lead the league in OBP and the Nationals are 2nd to last in OBP...so who is harper supposed to be driving in?

On top of the Cardinals having one of the best offenses in the game, Carpenter has also played every day. I'm sure you can see this.

Yea you guys are right cause everyone knows Pete Kozma (8th place hitter) and the Cards pitching slot (9 hole) get on base a lot.
Meaningless statistic.

Carpenter also has 158 PAs with runners on base and Harper only has 119. Harper has a .877 OPS which is excellent, Carpenter has been ridiculous with a 1.036 OPS.

He's done better with runners in scoring position, though Harper is doing great himself. Carpenter has also benefited from additional plate appearances.
