For those who have been to the HOF what else is there to do in the area?

Are there any other baseball related sites that are must see? Any teams with a stadium in the area? Any recommendations on where to stay for a family of 4?

The Poconos
One word. Ommegang

Did that when I went to Cooperstown a few years back...

Actually we went to Ommegang, then we went to Cooperstown Brewing, where they told us about the "Cooperstown Beverage Trail" with a passport and everything that you get stamped. So we got stamped at Cooperstown Brewing, hit up a Winery, think it was Bear something, and then a cider mill that was like fly creek or something, then had to run back to Ommegang for our stamps, and then we received a glass at the end. I got a beer glass, my wife a wine glass. And each stop gives you a little thing too... Coasters, or a beer opener, etc.

Thanks for the tips! We will be with our 9 and 11 yr old kids. I don't think they will be up for a brewery tour but I sure would like it!

We're flying into NYC a few days earlier, then taking a train tour through some of the state up to Syracuse; Cooperstown for 2 days, then on to Rochester to see friends. Heading back to Texas from there.

I think Howe caverns is not too far away

I went with my mom when I was 13, loved the caverns! There are a few of them in the area, I remember Howe but can't recall any of the others.

There's also the Corvette Museum, which may not even be open after the sinkhole ate a bunch of cars. When I went, there was a place in the area where you could dig your own fossils. That's about all I remember, but it was over 20 years ago so who knows.

Son the Corvette Americana museum your thinking of opened at the worst possible time (during the baseball strike of 1994) and was gone by 1996. Your post made me chuckle . You visited at a great time as that corvette museum was opened a very limited amount of time and that's a great memory to have.

Ha! That's awesome, I had no idea it was long gone. When there was the sinkhole issue at the Museum recently, I assumed it was the one near Cooperstown. Now I see it's in Bowling Green KY, good thing I'm not a travel agent!

I haven't been to Cooperstown since 1997 but I do remember there being a nice card shop at which I pulled my first autograph from a pack of cards: 1997 Topps Stars Rookie Reprint Autograph of Monte Irvin. No idea if that card shop still exists but have fun at the museum. I could spend a week in that place!

Just wanted to follow up!

We got back a few hours ago and had a great time! We did Howe Caverns as suggested... Loved it!

We cruised Main St. Sunday night and Monday morning. There are a ton of collectibles stores there, like every other store sells cards. But, the prices are sickening (betances chrome auto... $30!! The guy said they actually sell). So we didn't buy any cards. We got a few Cooperstown T-shirts, a few new te hats, and some other souvenirs. The HOF was great! Here are a few pics from the trip:
