I stumbled on this tonight.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-1-1999-Ul...1378535708?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item20ead1411c

I know some people say these are replacement cards and/or back door card etc. Why would PSA grade these? I own the original 1/1 of this parallel:

I do have some of these non serial numbered cards but not the Ultimate Victory card

I just find it weird that if no one really knows where these came from how can PSA mark it as "Parallel". I have the U Victory numbered to /100 graded and they have it listed as "Parallel 100". Why would the one in the auction not say "Parallel 1/1" or replacement or something?

I even have seen this with Pacific. I have a few as well:

Anyone have any ideas or any other information about why PSA would grade these? Do you player collectors collect these non serial numbered cards?

It's about time we got some confirmation about there being a serial #ed and non-serial #ed versions of these. I had a feeling there were copies of both since the only person selling the non-serial #ed copies is bristolcollectibles.

There is a similar issue with the 1998 Pinnacle Performers Big Bang Seasonal Outburst parallels. Lots of non-serial numbered cards floating out there. I saw a Ripken at the last Baltimore National that should be serial numbered (to 17, I believe) and the dealer was asking $300 on it.

In the early 2000s I was a member of PSA and I had a Topps Gold Label wrong name error that PSA would not grade unless I had proof that there were more of these errors or if Topps would confirm that they made these errors. I eventually found an article that talked about the errors and I got PSA to grade the card. I am sure over time they might have loosened there policy or do they just grade anything? Has anyone contacted this seller to see where these came from. He has some big players at big prices. Someone has to know something.

Every single non serial #ed versions of cards from this set have been from the same seller. I'd like more info. about this as well now that we know there are serial #ed and non-serial #ed copies of the same card.

Ryan, I agree with with your opinion. Labeling it as "missing serial number" would make more sense. They have titled it as "parallel" and in reality it's not a packed pulled parallel. The one offered on eBay is priced for around what I paid for the real 1/1. I can understand replacements for cards made for more than one copy but having a replacement for a 1/1 card seems weird to me. What's the chances these cards need replacing. If it actually is a replacement card it technically should be the only one made with a missing serial number.

Technically yes , but I know for example Classic Clippings Final Edition were printed in bigger quantities

I know I am beating a dead horse here but I noticed the seller has one of these graded by Beckett as well. It is actually labeled parallel 1 of 1 missing serial number. I don't get it.

Saw the RJ in my daily 1/1 search & came over to see what everyone knew about these. PSA not labeling these replacements is very iffy to me. I will not be laying out $150 for this /2+ card now that I have more info.

I won't touch anything that is backdoored like this, unless it looked EXACTLY like the real version. No 1/1 stamp, then it's not the real version, and I'm not interested.

Which really sucks, because it's highly unlikely I'll ever see the real versions of these cards. These are just crappy teases.

Agreed, and that's what I meant to mention - I'd totally pick one up if it was $10, even $20. But $150? Not unless it's real.

I wouldn't even pay 400 for the real 1/1 Henderson, never mind this backdoored crap being pawned off by Bristol

PSA doesn't usually put numbers on the flips, whether it's 1/1 or 1/100 or whatever. They seem to be doing that now for 1/1s, but it's inconsistent. They didn't put 1/1 on the O'Neill at the very least because it's not labeled 1/1 and it apparently isn't a 1/1, exactly, anyway. Beckett, I think, has always put the /# on their flips.

PSA would grade them for the same reason they grade anything else, to make money. They can't make a distinction between cards that are back-doored or legitimate replacements. That info simply is not known for sure. And in fact, certain backdoor cases add to the cache of a card (see the various 1998 Select cards).

I have 1 or 2 Sizemore unnumbered copies. TNT was selling some 2009 (?) Topps Chromes unnumbered parallels, like the Supers and Reds in the past year and I got the super. I already had the real one, but it just seemed like a good idea to grab the other one. I don't grade PC cards,
