I don't know why it would ruin any chance for him.

Athletes appear on RAW all the time.

Because the only reason WWE is wanting him to come on RAW is to "talk about" being a gay NFL player and getting cut. To tell "his side of the story" about the whole thing. Insinuating there is some kind of drama or unreported shenanigans that went on. If he goes on RAW and says anything remotely bad or newsworthy, any NFL team that is considering picking him up will evaporate quickly. So if he does appear on RAW it will be pointless and accomplish nothing because he's not going to say anything over the top dramatic or controversial. Which is what WWE is wanting and hoping for.

It would kill his chances because if teams already think he is a distraction, what do you think appearing on RAW will be?

Vince is just using him for publicity, and any NFL team will look at him and think he's either a) too stupid to figure that out or b) wants the attention
