While both of you guys have valid points, my concern is Heyward's split are more of a concern for Cardinal fans because the Cards seem to struggle against LH pitchers.

Nah dude no slight at all bud but gardy is not considered all that great

Not sure who thinks he is not all that great but you may want to consider this. Since 2010, which was Gardner's first full season, he is within the top 20 of all MLB OF'ers in value and that is with basically missing all of the 2012 season.

ask anyone who the great outfielders are no one will say gardy

And I am saying that is just a lazy analysis, because a player is not a home run hitter. There is a lot of other value to the game than hitting long balls.

Given his stats, would you care to explain your sentiments? He had 23 starts in 2014 where he gave up 3 ER or less. He gave up only 5 ER in 5 starts in Sept, finishing the year very strong. He's just turned 24 and has a career record of 26-18 with a 3.33 ERA (10-9 with 3.74 ERA in 2014)- at the major league level, and for his age, these are excellent numbers. I cannot see him being "flat out horrible" at any point this past season, nor do I see him taking any steps backwards in his progress as a pitcher, as you say. All that said, I'm open to hearing why you are knocking the guy so harshly.

My vote: Braves win in this trade

Jason Heyward: .224 BA, 2 HR, 5 RBI through 26 G http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?...ype=career&statType=1&season=2015&level='MLB'

vs.

Shelby Miller: 4 W-1 L (5-1 team record in his 6 starts; 6 quality starts, even if first two were only 5 IN ea), 1.66 ERA, .97 WHIP, .178 BAA, and 1 CG shutout 3-hitter. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?...pe=gameLog&statType=2&season=2015&level='MLB'

As a Cardinals fan I am happy with this trade.

How is your track record in the Red Sox thread? Could you give us an update? Can we maybe hold out for a verdict until at least the AS Game....or hell maybe September?
Since you did not included Walden (yes who is on the 15-day) I will drop his stat line.

Let's wait a year or two before trying to figure out who "won" the trade.

It's of no surprise to see heyward get off to a slow start. He will underwhelm again this year. Shelby looks every bit of an ace
sure this can change but for now it looks about right

Should we also wait two years before determining if the Bryant super is worth $50,000? Or a red auto is worth $14.5k?

It's an opinion I gave at the time of the trade. Obviously I'm just pointing out Miller is pitching very well and Heyward isn't doing much of anything. It's baseball season. Time to talk baseball.

That's all.

St. Louis Cardinals 20-6
Atlanta Braves 13-14

I have never liked Heyward as a player and have always thought the Braves got the better end in this trade.

I used to watch Heyward daily as a Brave for 4 seasons. He never showed signs if true plate development because his swing has too many moving parts. His hands are terrible fundamentally. I don't know how any coach teaches a player to shift the bat barrel in a players hands to the point where he is essentially playing hit potato with the bat until he actually swings.

Elite defender but average hitter. He will get paid regardless and that is why Atlanta dealt him.

He brings it daily with effort though.
