I just got these back from Beckett. I believe the MSA lids and Doug Allred cards are the first to be graded by any of the Big Three. Really thrilled to finally have these slabbed.

Good stuff. Interesting, but it looks like the lip of that lid is pretty roughed up all the way around. I suppose wax soda lids have different standards than cardboard. I'll have to look at my lids to see if they exhibit the same type of appearance on the edges.

MB, you misunderstood. I am down to 1 of the 56 Bo Jackson cards (W-B/W #\5), but I am collecting type sets (all 8 front designs) of all other 99 players (including Garvey). I have 7 of the 8 different frontal variations of Garvey and am missing the White(gray)-B&W(portrait) variation of his. This set was crazy with 8 different front designs and 7 different back designs. I have 9 spares of his that I can trade with to get the one I am missing, or would purchase it at a reasonable price. Thanks, Mark
Primarily collect Bo Jackson, but also Frank Thomas as $ allows. Currently completing '05 Studio Portraits sets of Frank and Bo (& Type Set of ALL 100 players). Also working on '07Topps M&M set for Frank Thomas & Complete #1 set of '07Topps M&M. If you have any Bo or Frank cards you think I need/want, please contact me.

    https://www.freewebs.com/bojacksoncollector/

    Sets I'm working on:
    2003/5 Timeless Treasures Silver (#/50); 86/100; 59/100
2005 Studio Portraits Complete Type Set; 717/800 = 89.6% (on hand)
    2005 Studio Portraits Bo Jackson (56 diff); 55/56 = 98%
    2005 Studio Portraits Frank Thomas (56 diff); 46/56 = 82%
    2005 Finest XFractor Blue (#/150); need 42! Have 123/165 = 74.5%
    2007 Topps M&M Frank Thomas:
    106-(18/38 blk) = 47% (36/38 white...Need #3 & #11)-(94.7%)
    107-(69/101 blk) = 68.3% (91/101 white)-(91%) (Need 35,48,55,62,66,69,76,83-85)
    2007 Topps M&M (#1 of each); 43/169 blk (#/29)=25.4% ; 113/169 (#/150)=66.9%
2008 BB Heroes Bo Jackson & Frank Thomas (need high-end Bo, and lots of Frank cards)

Thanks so much for sharing these. I didn't know anyone graded/slabbed the MSA lids. I'm not really into grading, but I'd like to get my lid slabbed prior to me messing up another one...

Thought I would revive an old thread to show a unique item I stumbled upon almost accidentally. This is an automotive brochure from 1987 featuring the Padres! Steve Garvey makes a backside appearance. Not sure how hard this might be to find in the car literature world (seems to be a buzzing market for that stuff), but certainly I have never seen it before in the baseball collectible world. A young Tony Gwynn also makes an appearance.

Pretty cool. Every so often, something new pops up. A bit like finding a lost treasure.

I see you nabbed a Pepsi membership card. Nice. I just saw a 78 sell for $50 with a kids name and signature on it.

I am not 100% sure I have a Garvey Gear card. I seemed to have missed them each time they appeared (n ot frequently). I might, but I don't remember. You got that off COMC Correct?

Thanks for the nice comment. It was definitely the main highlight of this batch for me. Not sure I remember who I purchased the Garvey Gear from, but it was in the past year and probably was from COMC.

I saw that Garvey Pepsi card that sold for $50-ish. The kid's signature was pretty cute, considering that he was probably very proud to be a member of that club! I was a little surprised to see how much it went for, considering that kid's signature though. Makes me wonder what mine might be worth, considering it's fresh and in high grade. Oh well, it ain't for sale, but still I'd be curious to know.

I submitted these in person at a show in Frisco, TX. The two guys from SGC were very nice and immensely helpful and accommodating.

The problem with that type of item is that the demand for it can be spotty. I was guilty of pushing the price up early on thinking I needed it despite the writing on it (I have a pretty nice collection of junior membership items across several teams), but then dug into my stuff to make sure because I was not wanting to pay much for it as a filler and found that I had one already. That is also the price of disorganization or just having way too much stuff. Since he is featured on multiple years for that membership card, I lost track of what I had. I was out at less than half of the end selling price.

In the end, 4 people were willing to pay at least $35 for it, which frankly surprises the hell out of me too. Another one could pop up down the road and only sell for $10, so you never know.

I really miss being able to see the bidder IDs though. I am always curious who wins some of these things when it is not one of the usual suspects (I know several of the hidden user IDs as we battle frequently, but it's been years since you could see them). This piece was won by someone I don't recognize.

Not sure if I shared this yet. Itís a game used lineup card signed by manager HOF Walt Alston from Garveyís rookie season (he played a bit before 1971 but didnít play enough to qualify as a rookie before then.)
