Merry Christmas guys! Yesterday saw my scanner and me spending some quality time together, and these Gypsy Queen minis are so cool I wanted to share. I hadn't noticed until then that all four of them are serial numbered 5, which was Gomes's jersey number with the Red Sox. Normally getting one jersey numbered card is a cool bonus, but to get them all is crazy. (The regular sized blue frame parallel I have is 006/499... That would just be insane.)

Anyone heard from jaderock recently? He's probably got 20 runs like this.

2014 Topps Gypsy Queen Jersey # rainbow

5/199 Black
5/99 Red
5/50 Sepia
5/5 Wood
1/1 Leather (not the jersey #, but hey, it rounds out the set)

And while I'm at it, some other Gomes pickups from the last few months:

hey LWMM,

First of all I wanted to say I love your collection! Secondly I wanted to ask about your 2004 Topps Traded Blue Gomes 1/1. I own the Scott Dohmann and Jeff Salazar from this set and your Gomes is the only other one I've ever seen. I pulled up your page and looked at it and noticed yours doesn't have a serial #1 /1 on back. Was just wondering if this might have been a oversight when you were scanning it or if there may be versions out there without the serial #.

corockies those are awesome cards! I think your two are pack issued 1/1s, whereas mine are backdoored, either factory replacements or extras cut from sheets.

Here's the post about it back when I got it: http://www.freedomcardboard.com/forum/showthread.php/104576-Mail!-A-1-1-and-a-game-used-jersey

It's worth checking out just for uniquebaseballcards collection; he has like ten of these.

The one in my signature I purchased for $25 from Burbank in April 2012. When it arrived (sans serial numbering) I asked them about it, and received this response:

"We had that card for quite some time.* I don't know if we got it out
of packs and boxes because we break tons of Boxes that is how we get
most of our singles and that is why we have over 33.6 million cards on-line.

Also, we buy huge collections and we buy out card shops that gone out
of business so we would have no idea as to where we got it or when.

Please return the card and upon receipt we'll refund you for the card.

Do you need any other cards to replace it? You can go up to 32.00
because we feel bad.

Please let me know."

That answer didn't seem entirely genuine, but it's understandable that one would not want to out a source of backdoored material. Then, a couple months ago, Burbank listed two more on eBay for $4 each. So that pretty much confirms that these are backdoored extras, and strongly suggests that Burbank's "we deal with so many cards we just can't remember" response is disingenuous. But regardless, I'm happy with the cards; they're as close as I'm likely to get to the actual blue 1/1, and they look cool.

Thanks LWMM that link clears up a bunch! I've never known anybody else who own any of these cards and I was beginning to wonder where they all were.

I hope uniquebaseballcards is still around I'd like to find out exactly which ones he owns.

Not to hijack, but I've heard the same - unnumbered are backdoored, which I've seen plenty of over the years. Serial numbered are the authentic ones. I bought this one shortly after release in 2004, I have never seen another player since. No scan of the back, but it is serial numbered.

corockies nkdbacks either of you have a 2004 Topps Chrome Traded Blue Refractor? Beckett has a scan of a Carlos Beltran card, but it's stamped "/1" rather than "1/1"

The Chris Nelson 2004 Topps Chrome Traded Blue Refractor has been on eBay for a while. It's serial #ed 1/1. (I'd add it to my collection but not for $150):

UPDATE - Seller accepted my offer of $80 lol. I guess I own this now! Sweet!

Haha, that's sweet! I made a killing off the X-Fractor/10 version of this Nelson card - bought it for like $10 BIN near the end of 2004, sold it for $200 or $300, can't remember.

I have the Jeff Weaver card from that set with identical serial numbering to those above. I could be wrong but didn't Topps put holograms (similar to what they did for autographed cards) on the back of all 1/1's back then? That kind of leads me to believe all of the Blues were backdoored and somebody stamped at least 1 set "1/1", or Topps had already stamped them but they weren't packed out.
