A bunch of you in the 90's thread wanted to get in on a group break. I am willing to fall on this grenade and host it! I've hosted a few breaks in my time on Blowout. Most of them were 6 years ago, but they went well.

LQJWQp8.png

A few things:

I would like to participate in this break. Sometimes people have an issue with the host as a participant. I'll bet we can recruit cgilmo to do the random slot draft on random.org to avoid any conflicts.

I'd like to stick with the random slot draft format. If you're unfamiliar, there will be X amount of slots. Once the break is full and paid for, we'll (Gilmo) will randomize the slot order using random.org. There will be a period where break participants (no outsiders!) can buy/sell/trade slots amongst yourselves. After that period, we'll run the draft. That's when you'll choose your player for the break. To draft, you'll just make a post in this thread with the name of the player you're drafting.

I'm thinking (and this is open to discussion of course) that we'll identify one slot for each star player, and then a slot for all AL non-stars and a slot for NL non-stars.

Please propose some products to break. If you're going to post one, please post a link to where it can be purchased from a reputable source.

Break Format
Random Slot Draft from the list of 33 below. For slots 1 - 31, you pick any player you like. Slot 32 covers every AL player not chosen in an individual slot, and slot 33 is the same, but for the NL.

Multi-Player Cards
Multi-player cards will be randomized between the parties that hold a claim to the card using the Randomize List function on random.org

Players in other uniforms
This is mostly a player break, so it shouldn't really be an issue. For the 2 AL/NL slots, if there is any dispute, the card will go to the team that the player's jersey shows.

AL/NL Definitions
AL/NL is designated by the 1999 MLB Divisions.

Draft Rules
Time: Monday 9/17 @ 4PM PST
Time between slots: 5 minutes, or you will be autodrafted (see below)
We will have 4 days between random and draft to trade picks.
Trading ends Sunday night!

For absentees:
If you cannot be here for the draft, PM me your top 10 picks.
If all of your picks are gone and you are not present, you will receive the next available player with the most career HRs. If all fielders are gone, you will receive the pitcher with the next highest career K total.

33 slots

1 - 31: You pick your player
32: AL non-stars (everyone in the AL not listed above) or NL non-stars (everyone in the NL not listed above)
33: AL non-stars (everyone in the AL not listed above) or NL non-stars (everyone in the NL not listed above) - whichever of the 2 is remaining

Current Estimated Costs
17 boxes
$1510 / 33 slots = $45.76/slot

Supplies
$51.35 / 33 slots = $1.55/slot

PayPal Fees (calculated using https://salecalc.com/paypal). The savings for multiple slots comes in due to the $.30/transaction PayPal fee.
$1.67 for 1 slot
$3.04 for 2 slots
$4.42 for 3 slots

Pre-shipping 1 slot price = $48.98 ($45.76 + $1.55 + $1.67)
Pre-shipping 2 slot price = $97.66 ($91.52 + $3.10 + $3.04)
Pre-shipping 3 slot price = $146.35 ($137.28 + $4.65 + $4.42)

Shipping
TBD - can reconcile after the break with an extra payment, multiple slot holders will obviously fare better with shipping.
The 300 ct boxes fit nicely and are cheap to ship in USPS Padded Flat Rate Envelopes which are ~$7.

Payment info

Break is FULL as of 8pm Pacific 9/12
Send your total payment via PayPal goods to: [email protected] - See above for the calculated slot prices
Please include your forum name and number of slots

Purchasing
I will purchase everything above once all funds have been received. I'll post a screenshot of the PayPal balance and provide a log of all transactions of break purchases.

If a box offers a Best Offer option, I'm going to drive a hard bargain and try and get the price down. Any extra $$ after purchasing boxes and supplies will go towards a general shipping fund to reduce everyone's shipping costs, which will be determined post-break.

Read and understand this: The order of slots here is NOT the order of picks. This will be randomized by Chris (cgilmo) and posted once the break is full and paid for.

Looooooosiana!
I'm in! I'll likely take multiple slots to chase some Astros goodies. Would the Astros be considered an NL or AL team? They were NL in the 90s, so I assume NL, right?

Proposed 90's Break

I really liked the format of the last large 90s break we did. Any Radom/Draft I’d pass on. Pull out the stars and price them by tier and sell teams individually (minus the star slots).

Coolio. I'm in for the Robbie Alomar slot.
Iam in for a Bernie williams slot.
I’m in for a Juan Gonzalez slot..
I'm in for the Griffey slot

I don't think you guys understand how this works. Everyone that signs up/pays receives a space. After all spaces are full, there is a draft in which the draft order is generated randomly by a randomizing program. After the draft order is set, THEN you begin selecting players. Think of it like a fantasy football draft: first you're in, then a draft order is set, and finally the players are drafted.

Definitely interested. Obviously I’m a Belle guy and will be interested in how we do this and what boxes, etc. Should be fun.

Indians are my favorite team being from Cleveland and I guess White Sox or Orioles if Belle was in those years lol!

Bingo.

This prevents everyone from "calling their spots" now. Like yeah, everyone wants Griffery/Jeter/their guy. Well, you can always trade picks later so you get a higher slot and a closer-to-first choice.

I wish we could get our hands on some high-end product for reasonable prices (1993 Finest, 1996 Select Certified, 1993 SP). 1998 Donruss/Leaf could be fun, too...chasing Crusade cards. I haven't bought a box online in quite awhile, so I don't know that I can be of much help in that arena but I'll start looking.
