Mets' David Wright retiring at end of season.

Such a shame that a once great player has had so many injuries.
He was a class act and seemed like a future Hall of Famer his first seven or eight seasons, then the chronic injuries struck.

The Mets say they'll activate Wright for the final homestand, then he'll retire as a lifelong Met.

A great player who should have won a MVP early on. Great 30/30 guy who seemed to play without the PEDs.

He should do the right thing and retire a Yankee. Perhaps some of that greatness will rub off on him and he will heal right up. . .

He will be the only Mets player to have his number retired to wear just a Mets uniform

I am sad to hear this, but this has been my expectation for years unfortunately...that he won't be able to return. I am glad they will give him a nice sendoff though. Will always be a favorite of mine!

Maybe he'll be like Ichiro and stay with the team in the front office with the option to come back, especially since he is signed for two more years.

I just realized, being activated this late would keep him off the Mets' playoff roster right?

Really unfortunate to see him go out this way, so soon. As a Phillies fan I always respected him for playing the game the right way and being a class act.

I hate to sound like a jerk but, He made $20 million in 2015 and played in 38 games. Made $20 million in 2016 and played in 37 games. Made $20 million + in each year for 2017 and 2018 and played ZERO games. $80 million + in 4 years for 75 game played. He should have retired after 2016 and saved the Mets $40 million+. He knew and the doctors knew he was done after the 2015 season. So he tried 37 games in 2016. He was having health problems in 2014 with his back. Yes he could have sucked the Mets for another $40 million+ and hung around until his contract was up after the 2020 season. So he retired. 2 years late in my opinion.

The Mets have an insurance policy on Wright, so they’re off the hook for most of that money.
Insurance covers 75% of Wright’s past and future salary through the end of his contract. So, for example, the Mets only have to pay for $5 million of Wright’s $20 million salary this season.

Here’s an article from last year that explains how the insurance policy works:

Not a concern. I believe the Mets were eliminated by Memorial Day!

In all honesty, I had assumed he retired a couple years ago.

He was a very likable guy, it's a shame injuries ruined his career. He could have had an amazing one.
Look, I'm gonna be honest with you. I really need a job. And I will take any position, as long as it doesn't involve having sex with old ladies for money or bear traps. Those are my two bugaboos. While mulling over my resume feel free to check out my baseball card collection, it's small and simple, kinda like me - >>>>> http://s822.photobucket.com/user/JDf...ds%20n%20stuff
